Putin Mocked Over His ‘Swollen Face’ As Health Rumours Intensify

Fresh speculation over Vladimir Putin’s health erupted after the Russian leader appeared noticeably puffy-faced during Moscow’s scaled-back Victory Day parade, with critics branding him a “frightened old man” as security fears overshadowed the annual spectacle.

The 73-year-old Kremlin chief made only a brief appearance at the heavily guarded event marking the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. Social media immediately lit up with comments about Putin’s appearance, with some users joking that Western sanctions had apparently disrupted his access to Botox treatments.

“Putin, what’s with the face?” one pro-Ukraine commentator posted online, pointing to what many described as a visibly swollen or bloated appearance during the ceremony in Red Square.

Another critic wrote: “Putin genuinely looks sick — this isn’t the face of a well man even for his age.”

Scaled-Back Parade Sparks Questions

The parade itself also triggered widespread discussion after being dramatically reduced in scale compared with previous years.

Missing were the giant columns of tanks, ballistic missile launchers and sweeping displays of military hardware that have become central to Putin’s increasingly militarised image over the last decade.

Instead, the event lasted barely 45 minutes and unfolded under extraordinary security measures amid fears of Ukrainian drone strikes on Moscow.

Internet outages were reported across parts of the Russian capital ahead of the ceremony, while air defence systems were placed on heightened alert after repeated Ukrainian drone attacks deep inside Russian territory in recent months.

Observers also noted that Putin reportedly travelled by armoured vehicle to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier rather than carrying out the traditional public walk through Red Square.

Kremlin Anxiety On Full Display

Critics argued the subdued atmosphere reflected growing anxiety inside the Kremlin as the Ukraine war drags into another brutal year with mounting economic and military strain.

Even some pro-Kremlin voices admitted this year’s event lacked the confidence and spectacle of earlier parades.

Russian political commentator Sergei Markov described it as “a modest parade,” while acknowledging that Russia still faced “enormous challenges.”

Security surrounding Putin was also unusually tight, with reports claiming the Russian president was rapidly escorted away from Red Square immediately after the ceremony ended.

The unusually heavy precautions came after warnings from Kyiv that Moscow could not assume complete safety during the commemorations.

Putin Tries To Rally Support For Ukraine War

During his speech, Putin attempted to invoke memories of the Soviet Union’s wartime sacrifice to strengthen public backing for the war in Ukraine.

“The great feat of the generation of victors inspires the warriors carrying out the tasks of the special military operation,” Putin declared.

He also repeated familiar Kremlin claims that Russia is confronting the combined power of NATO.

“They stand against an aggressive force armed and supported by the entire NATO bloc,” he said. “Victory has always been and will always be ours.”

The comments formed part of Moscow’s broader effort to frame the Ukraine conflict as a continuation of Russia’s historic struggle against external enemies.

Ceasefire Overshadows Celebrations

The parade came after Donald Trump announced that Russia and Volodymyr Zelenskyy had agreed to a temporary three-day ceasefire alongside a major prisoner exchange involving roughly 1,000 captives.

Zelenskyy later mocked Moscow by joking that Ukraine would “permit” the parade to go ahead by refraining from striking the Russian capital during the ceasefire period.

For many observers, the combination of tightened security, reduced military displays and Putin’s strained appearance painted the image of a Kremlin leader increasingly under pressure as the war grinds on with no clear end in sight.

My thoughts were that he looked old compared to the many other recent photos of him. 73 years old and been in power for 25 years is starting to take its toll, as we that are older than that and retired all know.

Conveniently left out the bit about the Russians warning that any attack on the parade would result in devestating retailiation on Kiev.

Or that the parade had long been planed as a scaled down event...but dont worry the Russians are still a paper tiger with no washing machines or ball bearings 🤣
