Where to get blood tests for Tacrolimus or Sirolimus levels?

Featured Replies

It seems likely that I'll start taking either Tacrolimus or Sirolimus within the next few months, under the supervision of a doctor in Bumrungrad. Obviously, they can do the measurements there but I live in Pattaya and it's much more convenient to get them done here and send the results to the doctor in Bumrungrad. Does anyone know if there's a hospital in the Pattaya/Sri Racha area that can do these blood tests, or can they only be done in Bangkok?

If that's the case, I assume I could get the blood samples taken locally in, say, Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, and they could send them on to Bumrungrad for analysis. To be honest, though, I haven't found there to be much cooperation between hospitals. A few months ago, I needed the usual batch of pre-op tests done before surgery in BNH Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya did them eventually but they didn't seem especially keen, even though they're both members of the BDMS Group. If you need to get blood samples taken in Pattaya and sent to Bumrungrad on a regular basis (monthly for around six months) is there a recommended route for doing it?

Thanks for any info and experiences.

Being owned by the same parent corporation has no effect on this process. There is no cross over in terms of doctor's hospital privileges and the validity of doctor orders. Also no profit sharing at hospital level and totally separate hodpital administration. Unless dealing with hospitals in same chain (e.g. various Bangkok Hospitals) what you would have to do is (1) get copy of your records from Bumrungrad inc something stating the med you are on and need for the blood test (2) bring this to the Pattaya hospital and consult specialist there to get the blood work ordered (4) collect the results yourself and send them to doc at Bumrungrad. Highly unlikely that another hospital would send your test results to Bumrungrad. Just not how things are done here. But they will on request email them to you, and you can then forward them.

If you are lucky only one consultation in Pattaya will be necessary to get monthly labs orde⁰red but no guarantee.

Pattaya Memorual Hospital will cost less than Bangkok Pattaya, assuming their lab csn fo the test.

I assume there is a specific doctor at Bumrungrad you prefer. You might check to see if he is also at Bangkok Hodpitsl Bkk branch, many (but not all) doctors work at both. Because you could then more easily arrangd labs and any other follow up to be done at Bangkok Pattaya.

Thanks Sheryl. The doctor in Bumrungrad is an Assoc. Prof at Chula so I guess she divides her time between the two. She definitely doesn't work in the Pattaya area as I asked her about getting the blood tests done down this way and she had no idea.

Just one question - can you confirm that Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya can do the tests, because that would make life simpler? Thanks.

My question was not whether she worked in Pattaya but whether she worked at Balngkok Hospital in Bangkok. The main Bangkok Hodputal is in Bkk and vastply larger than the various provincial affiliates. It has the sort of arrangements with Bangkok Pattaya that you seek.

I can't confirm re blood tedt at Bkk Pattaya, you'd have to contact them and ask. They don't perpform major transplants there but they do pre and post transplant care in cpoodination with the main Bangkok Hospital in Bkk) so probably do, but not certain.

Thanks, that's useful to know.

This is the doctor in Bumrungrad:

but I don't see any mention of the Bangkok group of hospitals.

Excellent choice of doctor.

But indeed, not at Bangkok Hodpital. So you will have to follow the process I outlined.

For initial consultation at BPH I suggest this doctor https://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/pattaya/doctor/nicha-wongjarupong-m-d

Different rates, too. The Pattaya branch of Bangkok hospital seems to charge more than the Rayong branch, or do they have a Farang surcharge in Pattaya?

Some well‑managed labs or hospitals in Pattaya should be able to coordinate blood‑sample handling with laboratories in Bangkok. We already do this routinely for other important tests. Talking to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya could be a good starting point.

Not knowing to what you were referring in your OP, Gemini tells me that Tacrolimus is an ointment to fight eczema or psoriasis, or orally/injection to prevent organ transplant rejection, as is Sirolimus, but not for lungs or liver. The side effects of both look horrendous.

Many hospitals would prefer to redo your tests for extra money. When Chulalongkorn switched from paper to digital, there was no continuity. All the old records were just...gone!

Even the continuity of hospital computers is not easy. For example, how to look at serum levels over years.

I highly recommend everyone, for even the most simple tests in good health, to get a printout of the results and keep them.

Even if you're not of a scientific bent, you can look at, say, your cholesterol compared to past years and the mean value on the printout will note H or L.

DO NOT depend on doctors and hospitals to do this. We're all responsible for our own health.

Tacrolimus and Sirolimus are widely used to prevent rejection in liver transplants.
