Trump accuses Americans of treason

Trump unleashed a furious rant against New York Times reporter David Sanger during the recent trip to China. He branded Sanger “treasonous” over reporting on Iran and boasted about what he called a “total military victory.”

“I actually think it’s sort of treasonous what you write,” Trump said. “You should be ashamed of yourself.”

The outburst followed another online tirade before Trump even departed for China. In a storm of 55 Truth Social posts, Trump accused former President Barack Obama of being a “traitor” who should be arrested. He also accused Hillary Clinton and former FBI Director James Comey of “treason.”

Meanwhile, social media users in China mocked Trump with viral memes using the nickname “Chuan Jianguo,” meaning “nation builder,” a sarcastic jab suggesting Trump’s policies strengthen China rather than the United States.

Behind the lavish ceremony, the real tension quickly surfaced.

Despite Trump's high-powered entourage, no major breakthrough emerged on AI, Taiwan or Iran. Reports described Trump entering the talks weakened by the ongoing Iran conflict, while Xi dominated the summit’s tone and messaging.

Trump later said the two countries had struck “fantastic trade deals,” though few details were released publicly.

However, one detail from the trip appeared to capture Trump’s imagination more than any policy agreement.

As he departed China, Trump posted enthusiastically about China’s grand ballroom facilities, writing: “China has a Ballroom, and so should the U.S.A.!”

Critics seized on the remark as another sign the summit delivered more symbolism than substance. With mid-term elections looming and global tensions rising, the fallout from the China trip is likely to intensify in the weeks ahead.

Xi actually has balls. Unlike TACO Bell.

Headline from Mr. Sanger's latest effort from Beijing:

Trump Was Flattering, Xi Was Resolute. The Difference Spoke Volumes.

From his NY Times byline: David E. Sanger has covered five American presidents and their encounters with China, a subject of his latest book. He reported from Beijing.
