Retirement Visa Oa

Recommended Posts

If you apply and obtain a retirement OA Visa in Thailand,

does this mean that you then are permanently prevented from

changing your status at a later date if ever

you wanted to ? If for example

you go ' into retirement ' ( I am 51) , but then a year or two

later say you identify a business opportunity you would like to

pursue and for which you would obviously need a

work permit and Non- B Visa, does having a

a retirement Visa permantly prevent you from

' coming out of retirement ' if you wanted to?

I believe they will permit changes but might get pissed if it happens too often

Excuse me but my english must be different to you? Dr PP but if this older person changes his visa why do the immigration people want to get drunk?

Confused <_<

:o To be pissed also means to be angry Cute. Strange language this English.

Free English lesson for "cutethaigirl"

English is a vibrant and constantly changing language! There are three main English speaking parts of the world:

1: The UK & Ireland

2: U.S.A & Canada

3: Australia & New Zealand

Each area have their own nuances (differences in both accents and meanings) of many words.

The Brits have pissed as a favoured word meaning "drunk."

The Yanks have pissed as a word for meaning "not happy with."

What the Brits used to use as "pissed off at"

Now-a-days the Brits tend to go with the Yanks and used pissed meaning "not happy with" as well as "drunk!!"

So it now depends on the context of the sentence as to what it means!!

Confused? ..... you will be!!

Back to the original thread.... :D:D I think type "O-A'" visas are only obtainable outside Thailand, that is, at Thai Embassies or Consulates. They are also called "Long Stay" visas and allow you to get a one-year stamp in your passport when you enter Thailand.

Back to the "English/American slang" thread: I once asked an American secretary for a rubber. Couldn't understand why the other girls in the typing pool started sniggering... :o

Your O-A explanation is spot on RDN. They are more complex to obtain than O, applications in triplicate, all notorized by a notary public, a police clearance is required, medical exams. In my view the O is much less expensive and simpler.

2 years of tourist visas and 400000 in my savings a/c was all they needed.

I got it the same day I applied. Easy peasey...... :o

Can you describe your visa? Mine occupies a full page of my passport, is mostly coloured blue, and has a heading "Type of Visa" under which is typed "Non-Immigrant", and has a heading "Class" under which is hand-written""O-A" (long-stay)". It also has a heading "No. of Entry" under which is a hand-written "1".

It was valid for 3 months, so from the day I got my passport back from the embassy, I had 3 months to get into Thailand and get a one-year stamp in my passport. Then I got a "Multiple Re-entry" permit, so I could come and go as often as I wanted.

Any further details you can give I'm sure will be helpful to other prospective retirees.

Hey thaiflyer1 - I was working on my post while you were sending yours!

So where did you get this information? I didn't realise you could get an "O-A" from within Thailand.

Not sure why you said he was "lucky", it looks like you can get an "O-A" at Soi Suan Phlu - just like udon did..

I'm now applying for a work permit as MD of my own co. :o

When i said he was lucky i meant they could of asked to see a lot more i.e medical certificate etc. Website is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the Govt Dept that lay down the Regs) http://www.mfa.go.th/web/12.php An aside i think you initially only got a single entry Non Imm visa, how much did you pay? single is 40 pound sterling and multiple which would of given you a year is 90 pound sterling

I think that you might find that you have an O visa. Reread those MFA rules. The O-A has to be obtained abroad. And with 400,000 baht in a bank in Thailand, it is a support visa and not a retirement visa. That is why you can apply for a work permit

I made a mistake. They wanted to see 800Kb not 400Kb.

There is a very small stamp on the page which says "RETIREMENT"

It looks nothing like my type O stamp which takes up half the page , vertically, and looks like a 'proper' visa.

In chrono order my visas are;

2000-2002 tourist visas

2002-2003 retirement visa issued at Suan Phlu

2003-2004 type O visa issued at BNE

I hope this helps. :o
