Buses to Vietnam via Mukdahan

Featured Replies

Can anybody help me out with some definitive information regarding the best busses, times, costs and any other heads-up stuff on travelling to Da Nang via Suvannakhet? Thinking of doing a trip next month for a few weeks.

Reference for starters (Google)

Yes, you can travel by bus from Mukdahan to Da Nang, though there are no direct buses . The journey requires crossing the Thailand-Laos and Laos-Vietnam borders, typically taking around 15 to 22 hours depending on your exact connections.

Steps:-

  1. The Route: Take the cross-border bus from the Mukdahan Bus Terminal across the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge to Savannakhet, Laos.

  2. These buses run frequently, taking about 1–2 hours total (including border formalities), and usually cost around ฿ 45 to ฿ 60.

    3. From the Savannakhet Bus Station, you can catch an international sleeper bus to Da Nang. These buses will typically travel along Route 9 and cross the Lao Bao International Border into Vietnam. The trip from Savannakhet to Da Nang takes roughly 12 to 14 hours. Cost not given.

Sounds like torture to me. 🤣😂🤣

20 hours yes

It's a long trip, I did it once in the opposite direction many years ago. I'd fly nowadays - Mukdahan has Fly&Ride to Bangkok via Nakhon Phanom, then onwards to Da Nang from Bangkok.
