The Department of Science and Technology-6 (DOST-6) is expanding the 2nd Artificial Intelligence (AI) Fest by inviting participants from Southeast Asia. The event, scheduled from August 3 to 5 in Western Visayas, aims to promote practical and ethical AI use as the Philippines chairs ASEAN this year. It features nine events, doubling last year’s offerings, to enhance AI collaboration across sectors.

The AI Fest, themed “Building an AI-Ready Future, Together,” was built on the foundation of the 2025-2030 AI Development Action Plan launched last year. DOST-6 Director Rowen Gelonga highlighted the international invitation as a new step forward for the conference. Assistant Regional Director Keithlyn Sarah Bernardino confirmed the expanded scale, with events like the AI Technical Conference and AI Hackathon designed to foster innovation.

DOST-6 collaborates with several partners, including the UMWAD Western Visayas Consortium and local universities. Ira Pahila from the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development-6 stressed the event's focus on bridging the digital divide, particularly for marginalized communities. Ken Lerona from Cornelius Magnate Engagement and Consulting added that businesses are committed to supporting responsible AI adoption.

Looking forward, the AI Fest is set to become a key platform for ASEAN members to collaborate on AI strategies. The event's outcomes may influence the region's approach to innovation and competitiveness.
