War? What war exactly?

Featured Replies

Somebody enlighten me. What kind of war is taking place in the Ukraine? No territorial gains/losses. Drone warfare causing minimal losses in human life.

As a comparison: During the last days of Berlin, the combined "losses" of Russian invadors and German defenders amounted to 200 soldiers per minute

Today, on average, a drone attack causes 3 to 4 casualities. What kind of war exactly is taking place?

We may have forgotten, what a true war means and how it is conducted. Our grandfathers will know. We don't.

Russia is losing over 1000 a day.

Assuming that the casuality rate among Ukrainians is about the same, the Ukraine would have run out of soldiers quite some time ago. Demographics.

As opposed to WW2, what low engagement/low cost warfare as far as human casualitiess taking place in the Ukraine? Compared to wars before, the human sacrifice by civilians is "moderate" during the current Ukrainian war.

So again: What kind of war is taking place in the Ukraine? Problably "low cost war", as it is the only kind of war that is still "affordable". On both sides. Good news.

First of all stop saying THE Ukraine. That's intentionally insulting to Ukraine.

The ratio of Russian casualties to Ukrainian is MUCH HIGHER.

The exact ratio is of course not fully knowable but you can find about that on many objective sources. Yes it is true that Ukraine has a smaller pool to draw on but as far as just "meat" it is Russia that is currently suffering more of a shortage now and is failing to replace (which is part of Ukraine's plan to to keep the meat grinder numbers up).

Ukraine stopped trying to make major front line advances long ago. They wait for Russian kill zone meat grinder to show up as the Russians are trying to advance and then they kill them every day in great numbers.

They have made a game of it with bonus points system to the drone operators so that have very good verifiable video evidence of the large number of Russian hits.

Ratio of dead to wounded is much higher on the Russian side.

Wounded that puts a soldier out permanently are as good as killed from an oppositio military POV.

A typical dead front line Russian soldier would be lucky to last more than a few weeks and wouldn't ever even see even one Ukrainian soldier.

Yes it is a very different kind of war with the drones and that should scare everyone in the world as this kind of war will spread potentially most everywhere.

The Russians pursue human safaris on civilians in grey border areas as part of their terrorism which also includes missiles deep into Ukraine intentionally targeting civilian targets (schools, apartment blocks hospitals. Ukrainian cultural centers, shopping malls, non military factories, etc.). Ukraine in recent years especially more recently has been remarkably successful with drone and some missile hits of military targets, particularly energy industry infrastructure that Putin needs to fund his war of choice. In other words, the front line which is moving very slowly is only one part of the war. Ukraine's plan to win is much more about the hits in Russia trying to bring the war home to Russians and the economic damage to hurt the funding of the war.

The Russian people are starting to realize something is very rotten.

It is not a low cost war for either side, but right now Ukraine has the advantage in security of funding for about two years from now.'

As far as the experience near the front lines war reporters often say it is a much more hellish war than for example Iraq was because of the drones in regard to the terroristic human safari tactics, etc. and the unspeakable brutality of Russian generals sending off what they consider the "trash" of their society to certain death in meat wave attacks.

Good news? You sound insane.

The daily casualty rate is a combination of deaths, seriously injured and slightly injured. Many soldiers are pushed back into the frontline, just like WW2.

The War is akin to WW1, with respect to civilian casualties. Civilians were targeted in WW1, but much less than WW2, and thats because WW1 was a largely static war. There were few civilians hanging around in Flanders and the Somme.

When you consider deaths and injuries, WW1 saw about 550 injured/killed per 1000 mobilized. WW2 was about 450 injured/killed per 1000. The Korean was was 350 per 1000. The Iran-Iraq war was 600 per 1000 mobilised.

Apply the same considerations to Russia's aggression. Russia is seeing about 700 casualties (dead, wounded) per 1000, Ukraine about 550. Now you might think, comparable to WW1 (France in WW1 had 760/1000). No, its worse, much worse. GW1 was a mere 50 per 1000, largely due to precision weapons.

So much for "Swissie"'s disgusting dismissal of this war as a non-event.

But drones means something new; they have surgical precision, and have ramped up casualties. Last week, I listened to sobering evidence from Nordic health leaders about effectively how they are preparing for WW3. A Ukrainian official was present to share practical lessons how Ukraine, remarkably, has maintained a functioning healthcare system in the middle of a war which hasn't left a single Ukrainian town untouched. Ukrainian hospitals aren't seeing many gunshot injuries. The wounded are nearly all with blast injuries; mine injuries affecting mostly lower limbs, drones gong for the head. Every drone injury is deliberate. There are operators out there, Ukrainian, Russian, who are seeing face to face, on a screen, the people they are killing. That has got to have a effect on mindset. The Ukrainians report they are experiencign record levels of PTSD, but I suspect we will see new forms of PTSD to emerge. AI enhancement is now turning previously grainy drone kill videos into pseudo 4K spectaculars.

But I recognise that the OP is pro-Russian, and is using the opportunity to denigrate Ukraine, both by how he addresses the country and how he dismisses the conflict as not a "real war", following on from the language used by Putin, in calling this a "Special Miitary Operation".

Lots of geopolitical issues raised by the facts therein.

US out of NATO

Bloody hell, you can't help yourself. While pretending to support Ukraine, you denigrate their right to exist by using the Russian perjorative term for the country, "the Ukraine".

Putin lover.
