Bolton Urges Trump To Resume Iran Strikes Immediately

John Bolton has called on Donald Trump to abandon the fragile ceasefire with Iran, warning the pause in fighting is allowing Tehran to regroup and rebuild its military capabilities.

Speaking to Bloomberg on Thursday, Bolton blasted ongoing negotiations with the Iranian regime as pointless.

“Well, I think it’s a waste of oxygen to negotiate with the Iranians,” Bolton said. “I don’t think they’re ever going to come up with something that we should find satisfactory.”

Bolton Says Ceasefire Only Helps Tehran

The former White House hawk argued the ceasefire has handed Iran valuable breathing space after weeks of punishing strikes.

According to Bolton, Tehran has used the pause to restart drone production and recover weapons stockpiles damaged during the opening phase of the conflict.

“The first option is to end the ceasefire, which has done nothing but benefit Iran,” he said.

But Bolton suggested Trump is reluctant to reignite the conflict because of the domestic political consequences of another major Middle East war.

“He’s worried about the political ramifications,” Bolton added.

Push To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz By Force

Instead of waiting for diplomacy, Bolton argued the United States should forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.

Iran’s tightening grip over the strategic waterway has sent global energy markets into turmoil, with oil shipments disrupted and fuel prices surging worldwide.

Bolton said military action may be required to ensure Gulf oil can flow freely again.

“I think you need to open the Strait of Hormuz with military force, if necessary, to allow oil from the Arab side of the Gulf to come out,” he said.

He argued reopening the route would strengthen pressure on Tehran by tightening the blockade on Iranian oil exports while relieving pressure on the global economy.

Trump Balancing War And Politics

The comments expose growing divisions inside Trump-aligned foreign policy circles over how aggressively the US should confront Iran.

Bolton has repeatedly criticised Trump’s handling of the crisis, previously accusing the president of failing to “finish the job” by removing the regime in Tehran.

Trump, however, has recently signalled caution despite repeatedly warning Iran that “the clock is ticking.”

Earlier this week he dramatically halted a planned military strike after Gulf leaders urged restraint and negotiations resumed behind the scenes.

On Wednesday, Trump insisted he was “in no hurry” to reach a final deal with Tehran.

Americans Hit By Rising Fuel Prices

The ongoing standoff has already begun hitting American consumers.

According to AAA, the national average gasoline price climbed to $4.56 a gallon on Thursday — the highest Memorial Day fuel price in four years.

Analysts warn prices could rise even further if tensions around Hormuz continue.

The waterway handles roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply, making it one of the most economically sensitive choke points on Earth.

Any prolonged disruption risks triggering another global energy shock similar to the price spikes seen after Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
