Can the DTV 500k baht funds be held in my Bangkok Bank A/C?

Featured Replies

Just doing some medium-term planning for when I finish teaching in Myanmar (when? who knows!). My plan would be to stop teaching in-class when my legs give out(!), then move to Thailand to continue online teaching using a DTV, and then change that to a 'retirement' extension and no more online teaching when the 5-year term is completed.

I know that I would need to apply for the DTV 'online' when I'm outside Thailand, and I need to show proof of 500k THB or equivalent in a bank account.

Since I already have a instant-access account with Bangkok Bank for 25 years, can I use this account to hold my 500k? I am paid from overseas into my Wise bank account, and then each month I can transfer this to my Bangkok Bank account. If this is acceptable, do I need to show that those funds came from overseas (as per the 'retirement' extension requirements?) Or can I semply send funds at will from Wise to Bangkok Bank as I see fit. (ie - it is simply required to show the source of those funds (my online employment contracts)?

Your not allowed to have a thai bank account with that visa it should be in held in an account outside of Thailand

You're not usually allowed to OPEN a Thai bank account on a DTV visa, but that isn't the question here. If you already have one and put the required funds in it, the embassy should accept it.

^^^ Yes, according to Dr Google, once can accumulate the funds needed for a DTV in a Thai bank account - if you already have such an account. But he (she?) also commented that since I move between countries, I might as well save the money in my UK Halifax bank account, since I only need to show proof of funds, not actually (as is needed for a 'retirement' extension), transfer those funds to Thailand.
