Three Bangladeshi men have died after landmines exploded near the Myanmar border in Bandarban district, police confirmed on Sunday. The blasts occurred around 10 a.m. in Bhalukia Para, Naikhongchhari upazila, while the victims were working in a banana plantation.

The deceased were identified as Akyamong Tanchangya, 40, who was killed instantly, and Chingkshong Chakma, 34, along with Chopoching Chakma, 32, who died when two further mines detonated as they tried to rescue him.

Local residents alleged that members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) often move through the border area and take shelter in plantations, though officials have not confirmed who planted the explosives. Naikhongchhari police said efforts are underway to recover the bodies and secure the site.

Enamul Hasan, the local administrative officer, noted that preliminary information suggests the blasts occurred in the no‑man’s‑land between Bangladesh and Myanmar. He added that investigations are continuing to determine responsibility.

The incident highlights the growing dangers along the frontier, where tensions and armed activity have escalated since Myanmar’s 2021 coup. For villagers living in remote border communities, the threat of landmines has become a deadly reality.
