Police have identified two minors as persons of interest in the tragic death of a three-year-old in Mountain Province. The victim, who went missing on Saturday, May 23, was discovered unconscious the next day at a chapel in Sitio Batnong, Barangay Banawel. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Poblacion, she was pronounced dead from traumatic brain injury.

The investigation into this case is particularly sensitive due to the involvement of minors, aged 12 and 8, as outlined by Republic Act 9344, the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006. This law protects minors by prohibiting disclosure of their identities and photographs. Lt. Col. Apdilon Chiday Galong, spokesman of the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office, confirmed the legal restrictions while withholding further details.

Community members and authorities launched a search immediately after the child was reported missing. Her discovery in a local chapel has raised questions that are now the focus of police investigations. Follow-up efforts are underway to uncover the circumstances leading to her untimely death.

Experts stress the importance of a careful approach given the involvement of minors, emphasizing legal protections and the potential for rehabilitation. The community remains in shock, with discussions ongoing about safety measures for children and the role of supervision.

Looking Ahead, police continue their investigation with the expectation of gathering more details over the coming weeks. Authorities are also focusing on community engagement and preventive measures to avert similar incidents.
