Zionism carries within it a strain of cruel almost fascistic ethnic nationalism that has produced catastrophic consequences for Palestinians. The centuries-long persecution of Jews, culminating in the Holocaust, should never be forgotten. But historical suffering cannot serve as a moral licence to inflict suffering on others.
