Millions of Pink Sea Cucumbers Wash Ashore on Rayong Beach

Millions of pink sea cucumbers washed up along Suan Son Beach in Rayong after strong waves and stormy conditions. Tourists reported the unusual sight on June 6, with several hundred metres of shoreline turning reddish pink. Marine officials identified the creatures as Cercodemas anceps, a seabed-dwelling invertebrate known for its soft cylindrical body and bright pink to reddish-orange colour. Officials said rough monsoon conditions likely disturbed the seabed and pushed the animals onto the shore, although the volume seen in Rayong was considered rare. Visitors have been advised not to touch them directly, as some sea cucumbers can release substances that may irritate sensitive skin.
