Indonesian Man Jailed and Caned for Molesting Thai Teen on Flight

A Singapore court has sentenced a 20-year-old Indonesian man to 15 months in jail and three strokes of the cane for molesting a 17-year-old Thai girl during a flight. The incident happened on April 15 during a journey from Okinawa to Singapore, where both passengers were transiting on their way home. The court heard that Ariel Lhudfiyan Muarifin molested the girl while she was asleep and continued after she tried to move away. She alerted cabin crew, who moved her to another seat before the airline reported the case to police upon landing. Prosecutors said the confined seating arrangement on the aircraft was exploited, and the court handed down the sentence after he pleaded guilty.
