Yellow book / certificate of residency

Featured Replies

Hello,

I went to Kop Cheong Immigration yesterday to apply for a certificate of residency, went there with the correct documents.

The Immigration officer stated that I need a YELLOW BOOK (great for long term) for a COR. First time I knew about the Yellow book until the IO mentioned it.

The officer is technically correct but my problem is that I need 3 COR immediately (TDL, 2 for Banks and 2 for identification purposes for the UK later on). I should have told the officer that yesterday.

The process of the Yellow book could take upto MONTHS to be approved which I can't afford to wait for obvious reasons.

I probably go to Surin Immigration now to ask them.

Any advice? thank you in advance 👍

The io is wrong.

Countless folk have obtained COR for various things such as TDL or open bank account etc.

Some offices would require a TM30 or most recent TM47.

Of course tourists also may have need for COR.

The notion that a yellow book is required is ridiculous.

Perhaps he/she meant a yellow book would suffice for application of the COR

Most banks or Government agencies require proof of address in either the form of a COR issued by Immigration, or a Yellow book and foreigners ID card issued by your local Amphoe under the Civilian Registration Act ............... not both!

I acquired a yellow book and pink ID card back in 2014, and haven't needed a COR for driving licences, buying/selling, or opening bank accounts since.
The IO has got his knickers in a twist, or something was lost in translation.

in 40 years, had dozens of cor's
never held a yellow book, even when i owned my house for 12 years

I obtained a COR yesterday At SamutPrakran immigration. No yellow book needed. The only downside was it took 1 week after applying.

For those dealing with CW note that office no longer posts the COR out.

Means two trips to CW approx week apart.... A Pain

The Surin (just outside the city - actually a fair way out of the city ) branch gave me two COR's (100baht) each on the spot when I asked for them while I did the initial report of staying in the area. This was with a non-O 90 day visa based on marriage. I had asked in the past while on visa exempt entry and they just laughed, no can do.

Some immigration offices won't issue COR to folk with visa exempt stamp (tourist status)

Some do as Tod points out in his first post in another thread.

Unless things have changed I think there has been something lost in translation When I applied for my yellow book at kap choeng the Certificate of residence was one of the documents the amphur required ,

the article in the link mentions a c.o.r being required for marriage registration, I am sure I didn't need one, is that something that has changed recently?

Marriage registrations are done at an amphur. There are hundreds of amphur officers or more, and each one can set their own requirements.

I had the same experience when I got my yellow book/ID card at my amphur in Buriram. The amphur wanted a CoR from immigration

Can't imagine why an Amphoe would require a COR to register a marriage.
Neither the marriage certificate or the KR2 lists any address.

My affidavit of freedom to marry however did include the address of my intended spouse which had to be confirmed by the Embassy by means of producing my intended wifes Tabien Baan and ID card.

The owner must sign an authorisation form allowing you to register at that address and produce their Tabien Baan and ID card as evidence, so requesting a COR is purely overkill.

What documents are provided to Immigration in the first instance to register your address, to thereafter request a COR?
Yep, signed copies of the owners Tabien Baan and ID card!

Same for me, and, my affidavit listed the names of my parents so i didn't need a verified copy of my birth certificate, saved me a load of hassle as did the verified copy of my passport which I kept hold of

I totally agree that the amphur asking for a CoR is overkill.

I use copies of Mrs MD's ID Card & Tabien Baan (for our house) signed by her when I apply for my yearly extension based on retirement.

I wasn't asked for any supporting docs by immigration when I applied for the CoR - not even the CoR application form!! I just asked for the CoR verbally and gave them my passport. Probably because all the required info is already stored in my profile on the immigration database.
