Just watching this channel.

Really interesting.

Pete Best was kicked out of the Beatles because he was getting more female attention than Paul and John.

Imagine being kicked out of the world's greatest band before they make it big?

What do you do? Become an alcoholic in Pattaya?

And Jimmy Page bio is interesting too.

After he started using heroin, he lost the ability to play his songs.

And Physical Graffiti was heavy on synthesizers because Jimmy Page lost his guitar skills by that time.

And then there was Brian Wilson, God Rest His Soul.

A lot of tragedies in the rock world.

But great to see Paul & Ribgo together again.

And I am so lucky to NOT be one of those tragedies after nearly 60 years on the road, hard playing and drinking.

And my 1972 Fender Jazz bass feels the same way too.

What venues did you play at in the Mcr area?

I was googling the other day and was shocked to see the number of venues in Stockport and the big names in concert there back in the 60s, such as Hendrix.

I was watching a Mark E Smith and The Fall documentary last night which led me to Google when I watched them at Stockport Tech and at this one dayer. It was basically all punk bands. I don't remember most the bands but The Frantic Elevators played and I thought that guy can really sing (Mick Hucknall), followed on by Joy Division (most people were there to watch them...superb live), and then The Fall, then other not so great bands. The Fall were raw back then but improved tremendously over the years.

Stuff the Superstars" was a legendary indoor music festival that took place at the Mayflower Club (the old Coronet Cinema) in Manchester, UK, on July 28, 1979. Also known as the Funhouse Festival special, the event was a pivotal moment in the late-70s post-punk scene.

Apart from many pubs and Working Men's Clubs around the area, there were a few cabaret clubs, three owned by the Moss Brothers, the Princess, Domino & Georgian, on being on Grey Mare Lane, exactly where the Etihad is now. My band was Florida Beach, and we would do all three in one night and get 80 quid for it, less commission. We were opening band for The Who at Belle Vue in 68 & 69, they were effing loud. Also The Searchers at Harper Adams College in Sandbach, and helped open a club in the middle of Stockport, opposite Strawberry Studios, called Sgt Peppers. We went on to record at Strawberry, but got nowhere with it. Great times, great music and great girls!

Have a look at manchesterbeat.com for all the bands, venues and agents in the 60s.

Thanks. I'll have a look at that website.

On the subject of punk music.

I went one Saturday by train in to Manchester to buy tickets for a gig at Manchester Free Trade Hall. I regularly went to the FTH, it was my favourite local venue.

As I'm walking up to the ticket office, I saw a big sign for:

Sex Pistols, Slaughter and the Dog, Buzzcocks at Lesser Free Trade Hall.

I'd never knew till that day that there was a LFTH.

I assumed the sign was advertising a play.

It was a sign for second infamous Sex Pistols gig on 20 July 1976 (the first was on 4 June 1976).

FTH greatly missed.

You need to write your memoirs. All these old memories need recording for future generations.

The New Century Hall in the CIS tower was another good gig. Saw The Mindbenders, Harmony Grass, and many other there.

The Oasis and Twisted Wheel were more for upcoming bands.

The Golden Garter in Wythenshaw was the place for international stars to play, saw Gloria Gaynor, Barron Knights, and Les Dawson there.

At Mcr's Odeon Cinema. I remeber a show with The Hollies, Lulu, David & Johnathon and the Stones in the first half, with Chuck Berry closing the night. And I have seen The Beach Boys there every time they came over.

I started that with help of Co-Pilot, last year. Got the first five years done, then gave up cos there was always something else to add when my feeble brain brought it up.

After playing from 1963 until 2016, there is too much to remember. But it is all up here!

My future generations are both musos, one in Dubai and one in Cyprus.

I have owned some nice guitars.

Burns Sonic (63) with the same pickups that Brian May put on his home made jobby, , Tele, Precision, Mustang Bass (5h1t), Jazz Bass in 72 which I still have, Ovation Balladeer 76 still got, Fender X11 , Jazzmaster, 83 Squire Strat (still got), another Precision fretless, a Rickebacker 12 string Tuxedo of which there were only 20 made, mine being 0018, a Variax 300 followed by a 700 which is all I use now.

There is one guitar I regret not buying. It was a Fender V1 Bass off Eric Haydock for 170 quid in 72, I went for the Mustang. On a Caousel, Jennifr Eccles, Just One Look, I'm Alive...oh dear.

Amp wise I had a Selmer T&B 50 into two VOX 2x12 cabs, one black one beige then a Twin Reveb. Bass amp was a VOX Foundation 18" followed by an Ampeg V400 into a Bassman cab with 2 x 15 JBL K140s...what a sound. It's all done on Sonar on my PC with plug ins now, but hey, it's down to your fingers which matters.

My band had a Fender 100watt Fender PA system in 68, before The BEatles in Let It Be. as we were a Beach Boys tribute and needed a good clear vocal system.
