A popular over-the-counter supplement taken by countless older adults to help boost joint health could be tied to faster Alzheimer’s progression, according to new research.

The University of Florida team behind the study say people with early memory problems who reported using glucosamine were more likely to go on to develop dementia than those who didn’t take it. reports Science Daily.

The findings, published in the journal Nature Metabolism, do not prove the supplement causes dementia. But they do raise a red flag and point to a suspect pathway in the brain’s chemistry that might speed up the disease in some people.

Donald Trump must have taken a lot of it.

yes, but........

The harm appears specific to a brain already in neurodegeneration, not before

I stopped taking glucosamine supplements a while back. There's not a single (real) study that shows it does anything other than reduce the size of your wallet. Much better(and proven) results from collagen.

Magnesium is the best.

Looking at a television for hours on end every day has a greater probability to develop dementia than popping cartilage pills.

He must have once been in the presence of a joint but...he didn't inhale! Hm. Although that would explain the memory loss!

Might even be worse if all the ones who were taking it could actually remember they were taking it.

Dementia, like cancer, seems to be caused by life in general, breathing, eating, drinking, no matter. Something is going to do you in. Drink beer or alcohol? Your dementia risk goes up. I'd guess a lot more people do the latter than take glucosamine. https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-dementia/managing-the-risk-of-dementia/reduce-your-risk-of-dementia/alcohol

It also increases the amount of ejaculate.

It doesn't really help your joints.

But its bad for your eyes.

People who take it live longer, that is proven.

So you live longer - poor, blind and demented.
