Factory re-set

Featured Replies

My Galaxy note 9 is playing up. Seems to be some sort of software malfunction so I need to do factory re-set. can't make or receive any phone calls. Internet seems to be ok. How does keeping Line contacts work? Whatsapp are by telephone numbers so will be in the contacts list. But Line you have no way of knowing the Line id unless you happened to have made a note of it. What is the process, if there is one, for saving or backing up Line contacts and chat.

In Line go to settings (top right symbol on main page). It will come up with a page that says Personal info and Backup and Transfer...the 3rd item under "Backup and transfer" is "Account transfer options".

And there you have it. Follow directions.

Apparently upon checking I already have weekly auto back up already set. Whatsapp was also backed up. Already backed up photos, need to back up the contacts. I can't think of anything else I need to back up.

Wi fi access passwords - but often that is difficult if not impossible.........

Your phone is so old that you will not be able to get updates.....

You could try a reset, not a full factory reset, that will preserve your data. There should be options when you go to reset your phone.

There is that I guess. But it does everything I expect of a mobile phone except one. Taking an eSIM might be useful. But then a new equivalent phone is 45000 baht plus.

Before going down the eSIM.me route, I would seriously consider whether it is still worth investing more effort in the Note 9.

The Note 9’s latest security patch is far too old for sensitive use such as banking, payments, authentication, or important account management. LINE is also stuck at version 15.15.1 because the phone cannot officially go beyond Android 10.

The safer long-term solution is to say goodbye to the Note 9 and buy a newer mainstream phone, preferably locally in Thailand, so warranty, network bands, SIM/eSIM support, and repairs are straightforward. It does not need to be an expensive flagship, but choose a model with good security-update support, reliable battery performance, and decent heat resistance.

A phone may physically last many years, just like high-quality furniture that can last for more than 100 years. But once security updates stop, it becomes risky to keep using it for banking, payments, authentication, and important communication apps.

Before buying a new phone, check how many years of security updates the model is guaranteed to receive. Be prepared to replace the phone when that support ends; for many people, that means roughly every five years.

You are probably right. If not now then it will have to be in the next year or two. To be fair I don't do banking on the phone only on the computer. Just need the finance and the will to do it.

That's a no, an equivalent phone to your current phone would be far less, no reason to buy top of the range, switch to Xiaomi or other

Change of plan. I am going to buy a new phone. Just need to decide whether to buy in the UK now or wait until I go to Thailand. The main issue is the phone wont make or receive phone calls or texts. Internet, so chat works.

Managed to get my old S6 working which I thought had a duff battery. Just a duff charger cable. So i can put the SIM in that for calls and get a PAYG SIM in the Note 9 for internet. At home on WIFI anyway. I am inclined to wait until I get to Thailand.

Buy one in Thailand, cheaper and they take 2 sims as standard, some have additional esim also. Check Shopee and lazada and buy from an official store such as Xiaomi
