Communism and Nazism didn't start in their final extreme forms. Both grew out of Socialist foundations and radical ideologies, that being said,

When a mayor like the DSA Mamdani openly declares he "will never accept" a SCOTUS decision and promises to defy it, that's not democratic socialism. That's straight up erosion of the rule of law and a slide toward the authoritarian cult they so admire in other countries,(Iran regime,former Maduro regime).

I despise the two-party system as politically ineffective as a one party system. Certainly that's what we've been seeing in the US. I'm hoping for a schism that will create an electable third-party instead of this hopeless morass. At the present time, the Supremes are mostly flunkeys unwilling to make independent decisions that do not support the current regime. Mamdani is one of only a few statesman America has. Pity he was born in another country.
