Danny Dyer Blasts Successive PMs at Burnham Question

Actor and TV personality Danny Dyer made an outspoken comment about prime minister Andy Burnham during a public demonstration over sewage pollution in the UK’s water system.

Over the weekend, Dyer and his daughter Dani joined activists from Surfers Against Sewage at an event calling for the water industry to be publicly owned. The campaign is focused on recent increases in sewage pollution.

At the demonstration, BBC reporter Michael Keohan asked Dyer if he had a message for the prime minister about the issues being raised. The clip was not broadcast, and Keohan later deleted the footage from an initial post on X.

Dyer responded: “I don’t know who the prime minister is, mate. Do you?” When Keohan replied with Burnham’s name, Dyer said he did not understand who he was and asked whether people had voted for him, adding: “Yeah… but who is he? I don’t understand. Did anyone vote for him? Because I didn’t vote for him.”

Dyer then made further remarks about what he described as successive prime ministers. He said: “I think we’ve had successive prime ministers that are c***s. End of.” He also told the reporter: “Put that on the f***ing BBC,” before walking out of shot.

Keohan later removed his original post, but the footage was still widely shared online, accumulating thousands of views across different platforms.

In the deleted message, Keohan had jokingly indicated he would not use the clip on the news that night.

Earlier Political Criticism

Dyer, best known for roles including EastEnders, Rivals and the Bafta-winning Mr Bigstuff, has previously spoken publicly about politics in blunt terms.

In 2018, he appeared on a late-night edition of Good Morning Britain, where he described then prime minister David Cameron as a “twat”. More recently, in 2024, he criticised Keir Starmer, saying he did not “trust this man” and arguing the job had been “handed to him on a plate”. He also said he was “fascinating” to see “pensioners” targeted and questioned why Angela Rayner was not leading, adding: “When she speaks, I listen.”
