Pattaya Hotels Struggle as Tourist Numbers Fall During Low Season

Tourist arrivals in Pattaya and Chon Buri have reportedly fallen by around 20% to 30% during an unusually weak low season. Many hotels are operating at occupancy levels of only 15% to 20%, far below the estimated break-even range of 40% to 50%. Tourism officials attributed the downturn partly to fewer government meetings, seminars and off-site events following changes to working and spending policies. Reduced and cancelled flights have also limited short-haul travel, with airlines facing higher fuel costs and insufficient passenger demand. The sharper-than-normal contraction has placed growing financial pressure on hotels and other businesses that depend heavily on visitors.
