Police in Bangkok arrested six foreign women in the Sukhumvit area on May 7, following community complaints and viral social media posts. The operation targeted suspected prostitution activities, leading to the apprehension of five Vietnamese and one Uzbek national. The arrests occurred on Soi Sukhumvit 4, where police observed the women allegedly soliciting clients publicly.

This action stems from increasing resident concerns about the area's reputation among tourists. The women face charges under Thailand’s Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, with penalties including fines up to 1,000 baht. While police confirmed the legal charges, they did not disclose if deportation proceedings would follow.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown on foreign sex workers in Thailand's tourist hubs. A previous raid in March in the same area resulted in the arrests of 16 women from various African and Asian countries. Likewise, a recent operation in Pattaya detained several foreign nationals for similar offences.

Authorities aim to maintain public order and improve the tourist image of these locations. Moving forward, police likely intend to continue such actions to deter illegal activities and uphold local laws.

I was down soi 11 last week and police had around 20 Africans against the wall, taking details etc, but ended up handing out 500 baht fines. No wonder they cant solve the problem when greedy cops are just filling their pockets.. all the way down soi 4, full of africans.. get these filthy creatures locked up, deported

I always assumed 4 to 7 was protected turf. Lotsa women hanging by bus stops and lamp posts.

B1000 will barely get you short time these days.

'Increasing residents concern about the area's reputation'.

Seriously ?

but they are Thai...not Foreign Nationals taking their Business away...

Thermae has been there for 30 years and never once have I seen a non Thai girl anywhere near the place.

Yeah and prostitution is illegal in Thailand. 🤷🏼

Is it? I think you'll find that paying someone for sexual services is perfectly legal in Thailand.

Wrong. It’s 100% illegal in Thailand. You need to brush up on Thai laws before posting. Why do you think they keep having these raids down certain soi’s in Pattaya/Bangkok although just for the media to show they are doing their job and is why the brown envelopes are exchanged.

Yep. But the illegal prostitution there doesn't consist of non Thai girls. Never has, unless you count Africans who WALK by.

Clearly you arent a Bangkok nightlife guy. Ill be happy to give you a map if you are looking for something special

Have you ever seen "brown envelopes" being "exhanged"?

You have facts to support your public libel of the RTP?

Yep. In Pattaya koh chang and samui. I have friends in the bar business who pay every month or they get closed. End of story. You must be the only person in Thailand that does not know this. Libel the RTP do me a favour the whole world knows they are corrupt. FFS.

30 minutes and it is business as usual. Thankfully.

In fact if you are in Big Dogs bar watching the action, 5 minutes and back to business.

Mr Traffic Police could do with a Wide Load sign.

I rarely laugh when I read the news on Asean Now, but that comment made me laugh myself out of my chair.

Many Western countries tax businesses to death. At least in Thailand businesses pay much more favorable tax rates.

Yes, as someone who ran and has many friends who run bars, every week the police have a bagman that comes by and collects their tea money, bribes, protection.

In a few days all the Nigerian pimps will pay their "bills" to the boys in brown and their finest will be back on the streets around Nana, either peddling talcum powder or peddling their women.

Got it. You should report it then.

Its amazing that all of these tourists know about crimes under Thai law and refuse to say anything.

Report them. Go right over to Thong Lo station and complain.
