Thailand: 16 Firearms Per 100 People/civilians

Thailand: 16 Firearms per 100 people

Civilians own about 650 Million (!) firearms, worldwide, roughly 75% of the known total.

US citizens alone own some 270 Million of these.

Sounds about right. When I lived in Pasadena, California twelve years ago we used to spend Saturday nights up on the roof with a few beers and just listen to the shootings and watch the police cars and helicopters flying around.

Is it possible for a farang to own a gun in Thailand?

I note this survey was done in Geneva, how many households in Switzerland have automatic weapons and 50 rounds of ammo, lot's!

It's a thing about the Swiss Army/militia, you have to keep a weapon at home, after a certain time you can give it up, or you can keep it.

Something like that, anyway, that's what some Swiss guy told me.

As far as I know foreigners are excluded to apply for and own a gun. Maybe some one else knows more.

Read page 6 and 11 in the second link, here:

If you had a look at the report in the first link you could have seen that Switzerland has 46 firearms per 100 civilians (due to the Army rules).

As with land, it's best to put the gun in your wife's name.

Very interesting articles LaoPo,

it does also indicate that the handgun being the weapon of choice as high as 75%. this would coincide with the fact that they are easy to hide and a preferred choice for lower risk of being caught in the open. The story of the student whos Dad taught him how to shoot is a puzzle, as it stated he had no previous delinquency or violent behavior. Would it not be fair to say that being taught in the workings and use of a gun could in many cases be teaching a bad discipline to a young man?

I gather that if you sign up for the Swiss Army, you get given a rather spiffy penknife. :o To protect all that Nazi gold.

I imagine the weapons drill must be a larf, eh? "Pre-seeeennnt... corkscrews!!!" etc. :D

32 in France? Are they still worried about their neighboring countries?

without any vermin or wildlife of note that is left to hunt is the only use for the gun in LOS for personal protection & ego,oh and for the services?

(police, Army)

32 in France? Are they still worried about their neighboring countries?

They have special guns that shoot white flags. :o

As growing up in the south US i can tell you that a armed society is a polite society

That why there is so many guns in the US :o

I am surprised that Norway is not on that list, as we have about 1,3 million registered guns in private hands. Thats in addition to the assault rifles that the Home Guard is keeping at home. I don't know how many they are today.

This is the registered weapons. Then there is about 500 000 shotguns that are unregistered becouse you did not have to do this prior to 1990.

So 1.8 million firearms in a population of 4,5 million. And did not make the list....strange...

We are 4,5 million people in Norway, making the weapons density a close race with the US.

I am assuming these are registered guns. Most people do not register their guns. IMO, the number of people with unregistered guns in Thailand would increase the number of gun owners significantly.

Too true. :o It amazed me just how many of my own staff own unlicensed handguns....

A golf Pro tells me that Thai guys like to keep a gun in the golf bag.

Status symbol I suppose.

Or maybe to shoot the golf ball if it doesn't go into the cup on a four-foot putt...or the caddy that gave you the wrong line on the putt. :o
