Phuket Teen Wins Over America’s Got Talent Judges

Sixteen-year-old Phuket musician Rattikarn “Praew” Amloy, known professionally as Nene Royal, received four yeses during her America’s Got Talent audition. She performed vocals and guitar on a rendition of “Zombie” by The Cranberries before the programme’s judging panel. Nene developed her skills while performing rock music with her band Ozone at Phuket’s Naka Night Market. She previously finished as runner-up in the 2023 Overdrive Guitar Contest and began teaching herself guitar at the age of seven. Her appearance has attracted widespread support in Thailand as she pursues her ambition of becoming an international touring and recording artist.

Not sure why you would say this.

This kid has put in time playing at small time venues (food courts etc.) and developed her stage presence and her musical ability.

Basically she has done it the old fashioned way, play for people and try to improve.

I don't know if you are referring to specific knowledge of her using autotune but I usually associate that with acts that went straight to studio without paying dues in live performance.

She plays a lot of heavy metal and shredding guitar that I don't care for that much but she seems to be a very skilled musician and singer.

Why anyone would attack her (if that is what you are doing) is beyond me.

You are over analyzing. Listen to her performance. The echos and resonance suggest a modification. Do you actually believe that AGT or any of the other shows in the franchise are actual talent shows because they are not. Nor are the results impartial or transparent. It is an entertainment show where backstories are created, embellished and massaged. The judges are not actual judges with talent qualifications, but are personalities intended to entertain. Studio audience reactions are managed with instructions for people to ooh and awe, to be excited and to applaud. Contestants are selected on the basis of meeting the formula of a mix of hardluck stories, cutsie pie kids, sentimental older and middle aged people, buffoons to be laughed at and some people with some talent. It's all intended to capture and interest the audience demographic.

Why waste your time arguing with keyboard experts, they probably can't sing a note on key but so keen to criticise for no good reason.

She obviously likes the metal style, and her voice could fit in well with a band of the symphonic metal type, like Nightwish, Epica, Delain. She is average on guitar but could play it as a rhythm guitarist in that type of band. AGT is a showplace, where people can get attention and a start, as it's watched by those in the music industry, as can be seen by those who went from it to recording.

Average talent, only on there as she is parroting western rock, there are quite a few girls, and they are usually girls just as talented in Thailand. Petty Rock from Bangkok has been on many talent shows, but only Thai ones.
