Jomtien boat capsize: 4 rescued near Koh Khram Yai

Four people, including two foreign men and two Thai women, were rescued after their boat capsized near Koh Khram Yai, off Jomtien and Sattahip in Chonburi, on the evening of 24 July 2026.

Reports identified the vessel as the Ninan and said it had capsized in waters around Koh Khram Yai, leaving all four occupants floating in the sea. Rescue workers said strong winds ahead of a large storm were believed to have contributed to the incident.

The speedboat ran into difficulty about 12 nautical miles from the coast at around 5.30pm, after being hit by strong waves and winds. The boat was unable to continue its journey before it capsized.

Rescue teams reach the survivors

Authorities were alerted, prompting the Sawang Rojana water rescue unit to mobilise its resources. By 6pm, a fast rescue boat from the unit, working with Pattaya boat 501, had reached the four people and brought them to safety.

After the rescue, Sawang rescue personnel towed the damaged speedboat ashore at Bang Sare for safety and to assess the extent of the damage.

Rough seas remain a concern

The initial assessment put sea conditions at  3 to 4 metres, with officials saying they would continue monitoring the situation and provide updates to the public.

For foreign residents and visitors around Pattaya, Jomtien, Bang Sare and Sattahip, the incident is a reminder that sea trips can quickly become hazardous when wind and wave conditions worsen. Anyone planning island visits, fishing trips or private boat charters should check conditions with operators before departure and follow any advice from local authorities or marine crews.

Koh Khram Yai lies offshore from the Jomtien-Sattahip coast, an area used by fishing boats, private vessels and tour operators.
