The others are ‘agents’ who upload photos showing people with the licence basically saying avoid all the hassle we will take the test for you, no need to go to the DLT, Depending on the type of licence starts at 2500 Baht upto 5000 Baht. You can only contact them vis messenger, I contacted a few saying ok once I receive the licence will you accompany me to the Police Station to verify it’s genuine. The answer is generally I am not a scammer but never say they would accompany me to The Police Station. Obviously I am aware it’s a scam and possibly they will forward you a ‘Licence’.

Yeah. I've seen those too. Pretty stupid isn't it? Especially when some say you don't even need to go to the appointment! So whose photo is on the license?

I have an old Indonesian licence and at the time they had the thumb print of the licensee on them. The thumb print on my licence is not mine. The picture is a bit blurred as well as it is a photo of a photo.

HR sent a guy into town to renew it and the thumb print is his.😎

They are scams.

There was a post her on AN recently regarding this. I understand that the original text was published by the DVL

Some months ago the Hua Hin daily published a similar post from the police, as a warning about the scam.

An obvious question but why aren't they using the RTP Cyber unit to track these fake license sellers down?

Catch some, prosecute them and publicize it as a deterrent

Ask them how the licence is printed with your picture on it.

A more obvious question is why be a Facebook member since it's a long-standing channel for all sorts of scams and misinformation?

My friend has a Facebook account which he uses to keep in touch with friends. He is always commenting on "current" topics such as the "ongoing" arrival immigration queues at BKK, a one-off event from over 2 weeks ago that is still getting recycled. Then he's reporting the imminent start of the reduced 30-day visa exempt entry which hasn't even been gazetted or enacted yet. By all means he's free to use it to keep in touch, but I have advised him to stop doom scrolling it for news and clicking on any adverts.

I checked one out, they wanted a copy of my expired(over 2 years) licence and a pic as well, wouldnt be surprized if they actually caught people up in it, tried to tell me being expired for over 2 years would be fine.

Another scam on Facebook is these expat companies offering high-interest rates, between 10-15%

They want your personal details and phone number and amount you intend to invest, and then in the following days you get contacted by phone by their bank investment experts!

They can present themselves as extremely legitimate, buyer beware.

Facebook as a hell of plenty of scams and unsavoury characters operating them.

It just isn't difficult to obtain a Thai driving licence legitimately.

🚨 These scam posts are increasingly appearing constantly on Facebook in Thailand. Facebook loves the revenue

Victims are instructed to contact the scammers through the LINE messaging app and provide personal information such as names, addresses, photographs, and both sides of their ID cards. Additionally, scammers demand upfront payment.

After the initial payment, victims are tricked into making further payments under the guise of additional fees for documents, processing, and transportation. Ultimately, victims do not receive the promised driver’s license, nor do they get their money back.

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) reports that these scammers falsely claim they can conduct transactions with the DLT through Facebook and TikTok, using misleading profiles with the Transport Department’s logo. They falsely advertise that they can issue or renew driver’s licenses without requiring a visit to a transport office, charging between 1,000 to 6,000 baht for these fraudulent services.

**Authorities strongly advise against engaging with these posts or pages.** Apart from financial loss, there is also the risk of personal documents being used for illegal activities and the potential receipt of a counterfeit driver’s license, which is a serious offense. According to the Penal Code, using fake official documents can lead to imprisonment for 6 months to 5 years, a fine of 10,000 to 100,000 baht, or both.

The public is urged to report any suspicious Facebook pages or social media accounts promoting such services. Reports can be made directly through Facebook or by contacting the Cyber Police at 1441, available 24 hours.

No need to go to a police station to check if a Thai DL is genuine. It has a QR code on its back; just try to import it into the official "DLT QR Licence" app on your phone and you'll know instantly.

Instead of an anonymous agent, far more efficient to hire for the day any local lawyer to come with you to DLT office. It makes miracles and they don't try any tricks as some of the staff at DLT offices are known to enjoy hassling foreigners on the issue.

I had a chat with another one on Facebook today, send the required documents pay 50% up front the balance on receipt of the licence, he even sent a me photo of ‘his’ ID Card to prove he was genuine ?

Unless the people behind the Facebook page are offering to physically walk you through the entire process at the DLT, then most likely the licence will be fake, thus illegal. With such a licence, if you are driving a vehicle involved in an accident, no insurance company will cover your expenses. Is it worth the gamble?

The only ones that are scams, for sure, are the ones that state that you don't have to attend the office for the test and want you to pay up front. There are proper agents who simply 'hold your hand' at the LTD office after taking you to a clinic for the medical certificate, organize your paperwork and collect the fee once you have the licence in your hand. They are not scams.

Presumably because those who are scammed don't go to the police to report them, but that may be understandable as the applicants were trying to play the system themselvesin the first place! The people the OP refers to aren't actually issuing fake licences, they're just taking your money and not issuing anything.

Indeed. I've done it myself twice, but this time, as I was using a new DLT office, I used an agent to make the appointment (she was able to get one very quickly), avoid the video, and 'hold my hand' during the procedure at the DLT office (Rayong). Got it all done in 2 hours.

At Bang Lamung they give you a document with all the documents required and a QR code where you can watch the video at home,

... here is another concept, those who feel they're being defrauded need to report the incidences to the police, without that happening nobody can be investigated, arrested or convicted. Advertising the services on Facebook is not an offence.
