Undercover Operation Exposes Bangkok “Black Dollar” Scheme

Four foreign nationals were arrested in Bangkok over an alleged scam claiming that chemically treated paper could be transformed into genuine US currency. Undercover officers posed as wealthy investors after learning that the group approached potential victims at luxury events. The suspects allegedly requested 150,000 baht to recover US$6 million supposedly being held by customs officials, promising the investors a 40% share. During a demonstration, the group washed blank-looking sheets with a solution that made concealed genuine banknotes visible again. Searches of properties in Lasalle and Hua Mak uncovered thousands of blank sheets, counterfeit dollars and chemicals believed to have been used in the operation.
