Anyone know how long the inspection/test receipt is good for? A week, a month?

This is the drive through test that is required for all older vehicles and required before applying for a new tax decal at Land Transport Dept.

Called Tor Ror Or, I dont know but I have them do the inspection and included in the price they do all the paperwork for you. You can go back in 2-5 days and pick up the documentation. Its only like 200-300 baht more for them to do all the legwork.

Thanks. I usually take it through one of the drive through inspection joins behind the main LTD in Bangkok. It only takes ten minutes or so and they give me the inspection report on the spot and a receipt. But I usually do it same day as I pay for the road tax. Just wondering if I can do the inspection one day and then the road tax a few days later (with the inspection report in hand).

Yes a few days ok..wouldn't leave more than a week.

Maybe slightly off topic (if so, apologies). I go to a testing station in Hua Hin which does the testing and the paper work for the LTD. Go back to the station about working 4 days after testing to pick up the new tax decal.

Right you are in Hua Hin so you pay a service fee for them getting the decal. You leave the blue book with them of course and they update it, pay the fee, etc.

At the main Land Transport Dept in Bangkok they have a drive through window to pay the tax so it's a bit easier. I can take the car to the testing station and in about 10-15 minutes it's done and they give me the report and pay them 200-300 baht then I drive over the tax window at LTD show that test, the blue book (and probably my passport) and pay the tax and am given the decal immediately

In Chiang Mai I stop at inspection station on the way to DLT. Cost 200 baht and done in less than 30 minutes unless a few people waiting. Then to DLT and renew.

I thought certificate only valid 7 days but as Fruit Trader quoted it is 90 days.

My insurance company does it for me for 100Baht

Has anybody’s car failed the test? Do you need to carry out any preliminary work? I have this procedure in front of me and ‘for safety reasons’ would like to attend the test to know what might have to be done immediately or in near future…

An oil drum on roller skates would pass this test!

That said, I always take car and bike, same day but not simultaneously, to the nearest local test center, along with the insurance certificates, and they do the whole job for peanuts. They obviously take them in batches, because they give me a date and time after which to collect them, and have a box stacked with others when I go. Great service, very efficient, pity about the safety aspect!

Thanks everyone, I decided to do both the test and tax decal today. In total, it took maybe half an hour as the testing joint (one of many) is right behind the Land Transport Department where they have a drive thru for paying the tax. The fee for me was also 200 baht + the tax decal fee which was the same price as last year.

Bought my car 2013. Tax never went up but after 5 years it starts dropping 10% each year to a maximum of 50% discount, I was down to 8xx on my Honda Jazz when I sold last year.

Blue book and passport ?!!! I only give them the blue book (my car is 2 yo, no need test). Pay tax, done.

I took the PP but they didn't ask for it. I couldn't remember whether I took the PP last year so took it just in case.

Yes, if you are less than 7 years old, no inspection required.

I use AA in Pattaya.

I'm pleased to report that, for me, inspection is most definitely required.

It's been quite a long time since I was seven years old.

I give the car blue book to the insurance company, they send it to the DLT, charge me 100 baht, plus CTP and tax.

So if it's that easy, why would you want to do it separately?

Because I wasn't sure I would be able to do it same day. I was planning to separate the two. In the end, I did the inspection Friday morning with no queue - 15 minutes - so then I went right away to the drive thru - only a short queue there so I lucked out (NB - drive thru closes at 3:30 pm M-F).
