The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok has urged Chinese citizens attending cultural performances, sporting events and fan meetings in Thailand to comply strictly with local laws and venue regulations, following several incidents involving Chinese fans.

In its statement on 9 August 2026, the embassy also called on visitors to respect Thai people, religious beliefs, customs and cultural traditions. It said those taking part in events should do so in an orderly way and help maintain the traditional "Thailand-China family" friendship.

Advice for fans attending Thai events

The embassy told Chinese visitors to check event requirements before attending, including rules covering entry, photography and prohibited items.

It said visitors should follow the directions of organisers and venue staff, and should behave with "respect, friendship and tolerance" towards Thai people.

Chinese citizens caught up in a disagreement were advised to remain calm and use official channels for assistance. These could include event organisers, staff or local police, rather than attempting to settle matters themselves.

Recent incidents involving Chinese fans

The reminder follows recent cases involving Chinese fans in Thailand. These included fans breaching safety rules while following actors at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

There was also a confrontation between Chinese fans and security staff at an event involving Thai actors.

The embassy said Chinese citizens should join activities in a "civilised, rational and orderly" manner, strengthen friendly exchanges with Thai people and contribute to closer relations between the two countries.

That will be a nice change, they do have a habit of swarming. Particularly for the fried shrimp!

I used to say working in PRChina 30+ years ago, if the line is too long, they just start their own.

Why does not the Chinese embassy urge all Chinese citizens in Thailand to always comply strictly with local laws?

Why the restriction to only "cultural performances, sporting events and fan meetings"?

Does this mean that the Chinese Embassy generally supports most Chinese criminal and illegal activities in Thailand, apart from those listed above?

Because the last 2 dustups involved cultural performances and fan meetings.

Gotta start somewhere. As others have commented, it is rare if ever that a Chinese embassy will criticize the actions of their citizens in another country.

Yeah, but that was just because the Thai Minister asked the Embassy to do so. To be effective, Chinese travelers need to be handed a leaflet stating these thing (in Chinese) along with their boarding pass before they depart China.

Well maybe the list won't be so long that they can finish reading it before they disembark the plane at BKK.
