Iliana Lick, 30, a South Philadelphia resident and nanny in the Point Breeze neighborhood, was recently arrested by ICE for overstaying her visa. Her supporters and partner have been advocating for her release.

She's a moderately attractive woman. I believe, had she been a 45 year old male gardener, none of this attention would be making the national news level.

Yes, ICE has been documented as being too harsh, shooting defenseless citizens in the street, but in the case of Ms. Lick, bleeding hearts detract from making valid arguments for the cause of justice. Bottom line, she broke the law by overstaying her visa.

Can anyone make a valid argument for her staying in the US? If it were one of us in Thailand doing the same, we'd already be gone.

I find it difficult to present a strong case for her to remain.

In that case, there isn't a lot. But here is a harder case from the NYT.

A woman, came to America at 11 as an Vietnam refugee. At 18 she stole a large amount of money from the company she worked for and was ordered deported. Vietnam wasn't taking back people from the US at that time, and she was allowed to stay. Now in her 30's, married to an Amercan, and having 3 young children and a business that she and her husband built, she was just deported to Vietnam.

This really is a tough case though I suspect there are clear laws laid out for immigration cases like this. I wonder how successful her business was and, if she could afford the right attorney, could she have stayed in the US?

I bet if her name had been Illiana Suck instead of Illiana Lick, she would have been allowed to stay.
