New phone required to access Wise Thailand!

Featured Replies

I need a new phone to access my Wise Thailand account! I am currently in Cambodia and Wise is also blocking my Cambodia IP address whilst trying to access the website via browser! Guess I'll just have to bypass Wise altogether and transfer bank to bank. Thanks Wise!

Not unusual that older phones do not work with banking apps for security reasons. Maybe it is time to upgrade?

If you have the Brave browser available try the option to 'Open New Private Window with Tor'. I'm in Thailand so I can't test if it will work in Cambodia... but I tested if Wise will accept a connection from Tor... and it does. Also I use that option instead of VPN to access my foreign bank that previously required a VPN to connect.

If'n your phone has internet access, Firefox now has an included VPN or you can go to extensions and add a free (but limited) VPN service.

It is your responsibility to have an operating system that meets current minimum security standards.

You cannot expect a financial institution to allow access to is network from users who's systems are easily hacked or infected with malware. The financial institution has an obligation to its customers to maintain security. Wise doesn't need the insignificant income you generate if it is at risk of suffering a multi million Euro/$ intrusion event. If you don't care about security, fine, but you have to accept that others do care about their system security.

May be location dependent.

I can open Wise with a Thai SIM with my 10yo Chinese BlackView running Android 10.

US address, Thai phone number, linked to US credit union account.

So it's not a Thai-registered account.

Thanks for trying out.

Why don’t you just update your OS? Better yet, just install the app.

Wise doesn’t block ip’s in Cambodia.

I see your problem. 😀

Update: The problem was not IP blockage by Wise in Cambodia (as stated by AI), it was poor internet (as proposed by Wise help desk US). Logged in to website after four selfie tries. This is a common problem for older phones, app. updates, time for an iPhone 17 I think! Thanks for the comments, help.

I had to do the same with Bitkub. Cost me 8000 baht for an Android 15 phone just to move my crypto out of that exchange. The old phone is fine and I use it a lot.

This is not a problem at all. I have a Samsung which will not accept an OS upgrade to V15, so I simply switched to using website via the Chrome browser instead.

I've even placed a short cut icon on my home screen so I can go straight to it with just one tap. I had to confirm that it was 'really me' the 1st time through via an email, but now it recognizes my phone and works just as easily as the app did.

So bye bye to the app and hello to the website. (once again)

I have never been a fan of phone apps, much prefer a web app on a decent sized screen.

Unfortunately when TTB ditched their web app I had little choice, it was a new phone or another bank.

Fingers crossed that Wise doesn't follow that same path.

The stated reason for no access seems strange to me. I have a 6 year old Samsung A52s 5g. Google says it had android 11 originally but updates to android 14

My wise account is in Australia but I live in the Philippines and spend 3 months a year in Thailand. I have no trouble accessing my account from either place. I don't have a VPN.

The problem is caused by Bank of Thailand rules for bank apps. They are the ones dictating what you need. Wise Thailand, and others, are simply conforming. Your account is not with Wise Thailand hence not a problem.

Six months ago the Thai banks updated to a minimum requirement of Android 10 to use the banking apps, which would probably not affect most people given it's been around since 2019.

Android 15 on the other hand is less than two years old, this seems like a very customer-unfriendly move.

same problem

android 14 phone and login via finger print, pretty sure, right

but now I have to log in on a website with login and password like it was 10 years ago...

does not make sense... android 15 indeed is only 2 years old and forcing people to upgrade...

but anyways, will not be using wise anymore with the automatic conversion to thb outside of thailand, does not make any sense...

to buy property in TH you have to send in EUR to Thailand and that will not be possible anymore after september? october ? because of their BoT bank license ...

they even told me to use a regular bank which I do not have anymore since many years living in TH

There's no need for you to type in your email address and password every time you wish to log in. You can set 'Google password manager' to autofill it for you. (But make sure access to your phone is secure first!)

Alternatively, If you take a look at the bottom of the Wise login page you will see 'Login with a pass key'. Set up one of the alternative methods and there will be no need for you to be entering login details the 'old fashioned' way. It's just as quick and secure as the app.

Just a thought... Have you considered Remitly? Transactions are coded as TPP (at Bangkok Bank)

Try using VPN, set to your home country. Always worked well for me, regardless where I am.

Are you using something like this?
