Freedom Beach Shut After Tourist Death and Dangerous Sea Conditions

Authorities have temporarily closed Phuket’s Freedom Beach after a German tourist who disappeared there was later found dead. The restriction was introduced as officials assess conditions during the monsoon season, when rough seas and rapidly changing weather can create serious risks for swimmers. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin ordered stronger safety measures, warning that waves in storm-affected areas could reach two to three metres or even higher. Visitors and residents have been urged to follow weather advisories and avoid entering the sea when warnings for strong winds or dangerous conditions are issued. Freedom Beach will remain closed until officials determine that waves, winds and other safety factors have returned to acceptable levels.
