Kuala Lumpur City Hall is beginning a major resurfacing programme covering 59 kilometres of main and protocol roads, with work scheduled overnight to limit disruption to daytime traffic.

Two-phase programme

The Eight-Road Resurfacing Programme covers about 1.3 million square metres of road. The first phase, involving five routes, has started this month and is expected to run for 24 weeks at a cost of RM61.64 million.

A second phase covering 15 kilometres is planned for next September, taking the overall allocation to more than RM100 million.

Routes and overnight work

Initial routes include sections around Jalan Damansara, Jalan Istana, Mid Valley, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Ampang and the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway. Works will be carried out between 10pm and 5am.

DBKL is using a mill-and-pave method, Stone Mastic Asphalt and reflective road markings. Officials say the aim is to extend road life and improve safety.

What it means for foreigners in Malaysia

Drivers should expect intermittent overnight diversions and slower journeys on affected central Kuala Lumpur routes over the coming months. Check navigation apps before late-night airport transfers or city travel, and allow extra time where roadworks are marked.
