Phuket revokes Vietnamese man's stay over Red Notice

Featured Replies

Phuket Immigration has revoked the permission to stay of a 24-year-old Vietnamese man after Vietnamese authorities sought cooperation over an Interpol Red Notice request linked to alleged embezzlement and property fraud.

The man, identified only as Mr Nguyen, was detained in Patong on August 24, 2026, after immigration investigators found him living and working in the area, according to Immigration Bureau Region 6.

Detained outside Patong shop

Investigators located Mr Nguyen outside a shop on Rat-Uthit 200 Pi Road in Patong, Kathu district. Officers identified themselves and took him to Phuket Immigration for the formal notification that his permission to remain in Thailand had been withdrawn.

Police said he was informed of his legal rights and understood the order. They added that he was able to listen to and understand Thai well.

He is being held at Phuket Immigration while further legal action is taken.

The decision followed a letter from the Interpol National Central Bureau of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam requesting checks on a Vietnamese national subject to an Interpol Red Notice request. Vietnamese authorities had sought the notice in connection with accusations of embezzlement and fraud involving property.

Immigration policy targets wanted foreigners

The revocation was carried out under the Immigration Act BE 2522 (1979), using powers held by the commander of Immigration Division 6.

It follows a policy directed by Immigration Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phanumas Boonyalak, together with deputy commissioners Pol Maj Gen Phantana Nuchnarot and Pol Maj Gen Nattakorn Praphayon, to revoke visas or permission to stay for foreign nationals wanted under Interpol Red Notices and considered a threat to society.
