The importance of free speech online

Featured Replies

I was initially of the belief that when Elon Musk took over Twitter and removed the safeguards put in place by jack dorsey that censored unpopular opinion in the same way other leftist social media did that it would turn into some sort of unmanageable chaos but years later and I realized that I was incorrect. The eventual censoring of a sitting president is really what led to this outcome above anything else, and now I can see why its just as important that people should be allowed to say what they want online, just as real life.

Allow a discussion to take place, and extremists will turn into moderates. Actual trolls will lose power. The conversation will turn from inflammatory to more ub as understanding on both sides.

Speaking of this forum, dont shut a thread down just because some people are uncomfortable with it. Meaningful dialogue won't happen that way, and things will only get worse. Free speech, means people get to decide the trolls for themselves, not the moderation. Listen to what everyone has to say, otherwise why even have a discussion. Nobody learns anything. That is how this place has devolved into a playground for trolls.

Worth noting that in some social media/political forums the sitting Presidents words are STILL censored. Very immature and insecure IMO.

Musks takeover of Twitter had the ultimate effect of anyone wanting to be informed, can do so. Anyone that needs to stick to the woke false narratives from the political censorship days are free to remain in their echo chamber.

What is intetesting is that EVERY politically unfortunate story that was censored and posters punished(laptop, fauci, pandemic origins, a predidents senility) turned out to be factually TRUE. Proof that political censorship does not work in anyones long term benefit.
