If you are in a position where you need to show your ATM receipts (for Visa purposes) then you may want to be careful that they don't fade.

It seems they are using a thermal paper in some ATM machines in Thailand that does not age well. I just looked at some of mine from six months ago and they are faded out entirely. Generally you can recognize thermal paper because it has a waxy look.

So, my recommendation to you if your ATM receipts are critical - scan them to a digital file or photocopy them - before they fade out.

I had mine stored in an envelope at room temperature. Perhaps they might store longer in the refrigerator? :o

Hopefully this helps someone - and hopefully photocopies are acceptable......

Well they are not valid at most immigration offices for visa use anyhow. Only deposits into your bank account count. :o

What they might be used for is as evidence you have outside source of money if you get stopped on tourist or non visa border crossing but those would have to be within the last month or so anyhow.

But you are right - some of these papers fade quickly so if you anticipate a need later a copy might be a good idea. But I am not sure it would be acceptable for any purpose other than wallpaper.
