Rescue volunteer held after Bangkok fatal crash

Featured Replies

A rescue volunteer has been detained after a pickup rescue truck allegedly chased and rammed a motorcycle in Bangkok, killing its two occupants early on 3 September.

Police at Prachachuen station said the crash happened at about 12.50am at a U-turn outside the Department of Military Services on Ratchadaphisek Road in Bang Sue district. The 28-year-old pickup driver, identified only as Songphol, was seriously injured and taken to Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital.

The dead were named as 45-year-old Jetphol, who was riding the motorcycle, and 24-year-old Narissa, his passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Pickup reportedly used siren during pursuit

Officers found a white pickup with no number plates attached and front-end damage. Stickers bearing the name of a rescue foundation remained on the side of the vehicle.

The black Honda PCX motorcycle, registered in Bangkok, was badly damaged. Police, a doctor from Phramongkutklao Hospital and Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers attended the scene.

According to relatives interviewed by police, Narissa had ended a one-year relationship with Songphol more than two months earlier. They said she had previously made a report at Prachachuen police station alleging that he had physically assaulted her during their relationship.

Relatives further alleged that Songphol continued to threaten her with messages after the break-up.

Before the crash, Jetphol had collected Narissa by motorcycle near Wat Liap Rat Bamrung. Police were told that Songphol had been waiting nearby in the pickup.

He allegedly followed the motorcycle from the temple towards Ratchadaphisek Road, using the vehicle's emergency siren and lights, before accelerating into the rear of the bike at the U-turn outside the Department of Military Services.

Investigation continues

During the examination of the motorcycle, officers said they found one plastic bag containing methamphetamine tablets and two zip-lock bags containing crystal methamphetamine beneath its seat. The items were recorded and seized as evidence.

The bodies were sent to Phramongkutklao Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination. Relatives have been asked to contact authorities to collect them for religious rites.

Police said Songphol remains under guard while receiving treatment and will face legal proceedings. No specific charges were stated in the initial police report.

Another case of stalking.

Everyone loses.

Lights and siren but no plates?

Did he think he would not be caught?

Ambulance chasing taken to another level .

Started out as a bit of innocent work creation... but turned ugly.

Nutters don't think just re-act

Another great cautionary tale.

Take the car. They'd be alive if they had...

And yes. I realize that they may not have been able to afford a car. But most of the guys tuned in here can.

Ok, interesting factoid, but it doesn't seem relevant to the crime that was committed, unless they think the lunatic pickup driver was after the drugs.

I'm sure that's protocol, but again, it's not clear what that would uncover in this particular case, in which we know exactly how they died and who caused it.

There have been cases where the coroner found bullet holes in a crash victim. They can be hard to see after a scooter crash.

Small brains people. They can't regulate their emotions. Kill kill kill 😔 😟 🙁 😥.

They know exactly what caused the impact, they do not know exactly what caused the death of the two on the bike until the postmortem confirms that, particularly as there is a possibility that drugs were involved.

You’re wrong about your last paragraph. There’s a million ways you can die after being hit by car and they have to legally find out what exactly caused them to die and stating being hit by a car is not sufficient. It couldn’t have been a fractured rib that pierced a lung or an organ, they could’ve bled to death or sustain a spinal chord injury or a skull fracture, could’ve been a blood clot, etc….

Technically speaking, getting hit by a car was the cause for the injury which then caused their death. I know it sounds like splitting hairs, but legally there’s a difference.
