President Trump said on Monday that he expects the Republican Party to win the upcoming midterm elections and renewed attacks on Democrats in a Labor Day message shared on social media.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wished followers a happy Labor Day while accusing Democrats and their allies of trying to “destroy” the country. He also said Democrats should acknowledge that he knows how to win, and he urged voters to expect Republicans to carry the midterms.

Labor Day Message Sets a Winning Theme

Trump told supporters that Democrats would make one final push to “ruin” America, but said Republicans would prevent it. He said the party would win the midterms “big” and “save America”, framing the election season as a contest that will be decided in favour of the GOP.

The remarks came as the campaign enters the final stretch with summer drawing to a close.

Approval Slips as Democrats Lead in Polls

Trump’s message landed at a time when his political standing has softened. His approval rating is slumping, Democrats have led Republicans in recent polling for the race for Congress, and Americans have continued to express concerns about the economy.

It also comes as the conflict with Iran has passed the six-month mark, adding pressure to the political environment as the midterms near.

A polling average from Decision Desk HQ put Trump’s approval rating at 39.4% as of Monday afternoon, with his disapproval rating at 57.1%.

Campaign Push for Competitive House and Senate Races

Last week, Trump urged Republicans running in competitive midterm contests to focus their campaigns on his record. He also said he would campaign alongside them.

At a White House dinner with GOP lawmakers, Trump told them they had stories that voters would find persuasive in the remaining months of the election campaign. He said that by sharing those accounts, they would win.

Trump also reiterated plans for an aggressive campaign schedule. He said he intended to visit each of 35 locations, referring to 35 races that will shape whether Republicans retain control of the House and the Senate.

Trump is set to address the Republican National Committee’s rare midterm convention on both nights later this week, as he continues to build momentum for the campaign ahead of Election Day.
