Da Nang authorities have inspected 781 accommodation facilities as part of a crackdown on foreigner residence and activity violations, imposing nearly US$26,500 in fines, police said.

Inspections focus on high-visitor areas

The checks were carried out by the Da Nang Department of Public Security's Immigration Office alongside local police and other agencies. They concentrated on districts and accommodation facilities with large numbers of foreign guests.

Inspectors found 34 lodging facilities that had breached rules on temporary-residence declarations for foreigners. They also identified 33 foreign nationals who had violated the law, according to the department.

Fines total VND689 million

Authorities imposed total penalties of VND689 million, equivalent to about US$26,460, on those found to have breached the rules. The Immigration Office said the operation was intended to identify problems early, monitor the situation and allow timely action.

Accommodation providers have been instructed to comply strictly with obligations to declare foreign guests' temporary residence, and to give visitors relevant guidance. The office said inspections would continue, with a focus on detecting and handling immigration-related breaches promptly.

Responsibilities for guests and hosts

Vietnam requires temporary residence to be declared when a foreigner stays at a hotel, guesthouse, rented home or other accommodation. In many cases the hotel or host completes the declaration, but visitors should still ensure the property has taken their passport details and has the necessary information.

The Da Nang operation does not state that every issue was caused by visitors. The results cover both accommodation providers' declaration duties and violations attributed to foreigners.

What it means for foreigners in Vietnam

Foreign residents and visitors in Da Nang should check that hotels, landlords and short-term rental hosts have registered their stay correctly. Keep your passport and visa details available, notify a host if your plans change, and avoid assuming that an informal rental arrangement has been declared. For longer stays, it is sensible to ask the landlord or agent directly whether the temporary-residence process has been completed.
