Vietnam stays among Asia’s top return-visit choices

Vietnam among Asia’s top 3 destinations for repeat visitors: Agoda - Ảnh 1.

Vietnam has retained its place among Asia’s three leading destinations for repeat visitors, according to Agoda booking data from the first half of 2026.

The finding suggests that travellers are not simply treating Vietnam as a one-off stop. Agoda said repeat visits are a useful sign of a destination’s lasting appeal, as visitors return to explore places they missed, revisit favourites or enjoy familiar surroundings.

Da Nang provided Vietnam’s strongest city result, rising two places from last year to sixth in Asia among destinations with the highest rates of returning visitors.

Da Nang leads Vietnam’s return list

Within Vietnam, Da Nang had the highest share of repeat visitors in Agoda’s data. Ho Chi Minh City ranked next, followed by Nha Trang, Hanoi and Phu Quoc.

Da Nang’s mix of beaches, city amenities and access to nearby cultural destinations continues to make it a strong draw for travellers returning to Vietnam. Its proximity to Hoi An and other central Vietnam attractions also gives visitors reasons to stay longer or build a different itinerary on a second trip.

The data is based on Agoda bookings in the first half of 2026 and reflects return-visitor behaviour rather than total visitor numbers.

Tokyo tops the regional city ranking

Tokyo took first place among Asian cities in Agoda’s ranking, overtaking Bangkok. Bali entered third place for the first time, followed by Seoul and Osaka.

Da Nang came sixth, ahead of Kuala Lumpur, Fukuoka, Taipei and Johor Bahru.

Vietnam’s wider showing points to the range of experiences available across the country, from beaches and resort towns to major cities, food, heritage and island travel. It also indicates that visitors are finding enough variety to return and see a different side of the country.

Tourism growth continues

Vietnam welcomed 13.9 million international arrivals in the first seven months of 2026, up 13.8 per cent year on year, according to the source.

Repeat travel can be particularly valuable to the tourism sector because returning visitors are more likely to explore beyond the best-known attractions, try different regions and recommend the country to friends and family.

For destinations, the challenge is to maintain service quality, transport links and distinctive local experiences so visitors have a reason to come back.

What it means for foreigners in Vietnam

For expatriates and business owners in Vietnam, strong repeat-visitor interest is encouraging for tourism-facing sectors such as accommodation, restaurants, transport, tours and local services. For travellers, it is a reminder that Vietnam offers enough variety to plan a return trip around a different region, season or style of travel.
