Sattahip grass fire contained before reaching homes

A grass fire in a wooded area close to homes in Sattahip district, Chonburi, was contained after firefighters spent more than two hours tackling the flames on 9 September 2026.

The fire broke out alongside Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip subdistrict. It spread rapidly across a broad area of woodland, alarming nearby residents, although no residential properties had been reported damaged in the initial assessment.

Fire engines deployed near homes

Sattahip Mayor Wasorn Siangchi was alerted to the large fire at about 3.30pm. With flames burning dangerously close to residential areas, the Sattahip Municipality's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division sent multiple fire engines to the scene.

Disaster prevention officers from Khet Udomsak Subdistrict Municipality and local emergency foundations, also took part in the response.

Firefighters found the grass fire spreading quickly across the wooded ground. Crews and fire engines were positioned at several points in an attempt to prevent the flames reaching nearby homes.

Before firefighters arrived, some residents pulled out water hoses and sprayed water around their properties to stop the fire advancing towards their homes.

Flare-ups and access complicated response

The operation was made more difficult because limited vehicle access and sections that had already been extinguished occasionally caught fire again. While crews worked to contain one area, flames continued spreading elsewhere.

After more than two hours, firefighters managed to restrict the fire to a contained area and prevent it from spreading into the nearby residential neighbourhood.

Investigators examine cause

The cause of the grass fire remains under investigation. Authorities are examining whether it started naturally or was deliberately set by someone.
