Can anyone name a specific land purchase by an Israeli citizen which the protesters believe violates Thai law? Has any Israeli been charged and prosecuted by the Thai authorities for an illegal land purchase?

Many accusations against Israelis are floating around, but very little evidence has emerged to back them up. That sounds like the history of antisemitism over the past 2,000 years.

It's amazing that no matter how many things men may disagree about, when it comes to a nice ass we're all pretty much in agreement, so one way or another we all have some common ground.

The same protests might be directed at any group.

IF ... the main reason for the protests is what I think it is ... TOO MANY of them.

Same with immigration back home. Muslim immigrants is one thing. But when the ratio of Muslims to locals is 10:1 in your village, then you will get anti immigration protests. Most people don't like another group coming in and taking over the joint and being a minority in your own town.

I'll meet you half way -- 50% of anti semitism might be brought on by the jewish people themselves. You can't blame the general popualation 100% for it.

Antisemitism does indeed have a centuries old history in Europe, with deep roots in the Christian church and European society.

There is however no historical antisemitism in Thai culture.

Apart from a minority of educated Thai, most of them are completely unaware/uninterested. Most Thai people probably don't even know about the mere existence of Judaism or Israel (although it may be different for the 6% of Thai Muslims and Christians).

I remember going to one of my regular restaurants in BKK with a Jewish acquaintance. I told the waiter that my friend doesn't eat pork meat.

"Your friend Muslim?"

No, he's Jew

"Jew same Muslim?"

Having said that, 1/3 of Phuket population being Muslim, it may be a particular case.
