There may be over 1 billion humanoid robots in 10-40 years.

This will be the most transformative technology ever and will completely change the way we live our lives.

So Musk does have God-like powers.

Petty people trying to make him look small won't change that.

Cybercab already will have massive repercussions, and people are still doubting FSD will ever come to fruition when it has already been rolled out.

I'm not sure humanity will make it 10-40 years, but even if I assume you are correct, that really doesn't sound like a world worth living in.

Maybe you hate people, but there are plenty of good people in this world and they are much preferable to robots. Maybe you need a girlfriend, and you think Musk will provide a robotic one. I'm with Roman Yampolskiy on that one, much preferring a real flesh and blood female, who will respond only if I do my manly job properly. Up your game and you won't need a fake fantasy.

I find it funny, and not so surprising, that the membership here is split on the dangers of ASI. The less people know about the frontier models already being built in the AI labs, the more likely they are to side with Trump, and say the dangers are way overblown or are some conspiracy to hurt the economy of whatever other drivel that lunatic will spout. I doubt he can even find the "On" button on a computer, much less understand what ASI is.

I also see people confusing AI tools with AI agents. AI tools an be quite useful and beneficial. There really is no need for ASI, as virtually all possible benefits can be had from limited AI tools, such as the one Demis Hassabis developed to solve the protein folding problem (and earn him a Nobel).

Even Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, not only admits nobody at Anthropic even understands 3% of how AI models do what they do, he also has stated he believes ASI has a 20% chance of eradicating humanity, well before your billion robot girlfriends come on the scene. An intellectually inferior entity has never controlled a vastly intellectually superior entity. It seems rather unfair that a handful of AI CEOs are making that decision for 8.5 billion humans.

High intelligence and morality have zero correlation. Nobody even knows where morality emerges in many, but not all, humans. (Morality, empathy and other admirable qualities were left out of psychopaths like Trump). AI built via reinforcement learning (the add-on after AI models were simply LLMs) has proven 100% of the time to be sociopathic. It stops at nothing to achieve its goals, as there is no conscience to get in the way of lying, cheating, stealing, and even attempts at killing. The goal is everything, no matter what it takes to achieve it.

When even the code writers understand less than 3% of how the AI models they write work, it seems to make sense to halt ASI development until humans get a better handle on how these things work and what they might be able, or intent on doing. There would be no second chance if we get it wrong.

Even the subject of this article---Elon---once said ASI is "summoning the demon".

My favorite psycho AI CEO quote is from OpenAI chief Sam Altman:

"If I don't end the world, somebody far more dangerous will."

I'm not sure humanity will make it 10-40 years

Oh no...is the world ending again?

Didn't I hear this song before...weren't you singing this in 2023 already, under another username?

This forum has so many "the end is nigh" threads.

I'm surprised most people reading this forum haven't committed suicide yet.

Better question is who cares. Nothing good has ever came from Australia

Can't understand why anyone would go there other than muslims

Australia makes the immunoglobulins, recombinant proteins and plasmas America either can't make , or has insufficient supply. American hamburgers rely heavily on Australian beef imports.

The black box on almost every commercial aircraft is an Australian invention. The Ukrainians can't get enough of our cardboard drones, which can be assembled in minutes from a bulk pack.

Your post only serves to demonstrate you are an ignorant fool, with a mouth orders of magnitude bigger than your brain.

It's an attention grab strategy isn't it? Just as Wingate was able to get a thread with a few hits with the AI will kill you in your sleep shock jock tactic, so some low-level AI employees are able to get their names on CNN and start their own foundations and businesses as "AI security experts".

Anyone who seriously believes humanity will be wiped out in 10 years needs their 'effing' head examined.

Remember how Musk was a darling of the left right up until he came out for Trump.

OK but there are some that dont publicly state their beliefs. Comparing peter Thiel to musk for example. Where someone would invest would depend on if they believe in something or if they just believe in money

Those on left get a pass, those on the right get attacked. Musk got a bit tired of it.

What a ridiculous statement. The most successful companies are successful because they are providing goods and or services people want and or need. It makes no difference why they do it.

I worked manufacturing made to order commercial and industrial HVAC and fire safety products in Thailand. We made schools, airports, light-rail systems, shopping centers, electrical generation facilities, factories, shopping malls, embassies. sewage treatment facilities, apartment buildings and condominiums safer in Thailand, Malysia, Singapore, India, Dubal, Japan, Korea and Russia.

It was good work that we were proud of. But we were all there because they gave us money.

Im not disagreeing with that. When investing in a company though I care more about what the ceo believes in and tend to prefer to know the direction of the one in charge more than anything. And then when the torch is passed its likely I lose interest in the company. The more aligned I am with their beliefs the more I invest, as opposed to what business I think will be the most profitable. In the case with Musk if he fails and I lose my money it doesn't matter anyway because everything is <deleted> if he fails

Not really true.

ChatGPT: Before Musk’s political shift in 2022–24, he had substantial popularity among liberals because of Tesla’s climate mission, SpaceX, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and his opposition to Trump. Musk himself endorsed Biden in 2020 and criticized Trump publicly.

So the left doesn't like Musk anymore because he switched parties. Well, duh. That's a no brainier.

Guess that's why you think it's significant it aligns with your lack of functionality in the cranium department. 👍

When I invest my money, my primary concern is return.

I would not invest in any company that was doing something I oppose, but I do not care what the CEO's political leanings are, whether they are outspoken or not, as long as their focus was on satisfying customers, growing market share, and improving margins.

Exactly. It's the same with Trump. The left loved him right up until he beat Hillary.

Yes thats most investors thoughts. If you've see my threads you'd notice that I think tge world would be better off with just him as the king or whatever. No reason to diversify when I can see that its either him or the end of all of us

No....that's not it......

  • Tom Hanks: Wealthy and celebrated actor, white, father of four, and universally nicknamed "America's Dad" due to his long-standing reputation as exceptionally pleasant, grounded, and well-liked.

  • Paul McCartney: Extremely wealthy music legend, white, father of five, and culturally viewed as a warm, approachable elder statesman of British music.

  • Ron Howard: Successful wealthy filmmaker, white, father of four (including actress Bryce Dallas Howard), who has maintained a decades-long reputation in Hollywood as amiable, steady, and universally well-regarded.

Where as Musk suffers from impulsive, unfiltered communication style leading to unwarranted personal attacks...."the guy's a pedo"......not sure Jesus would have said that. He's combative and vindictive....not very Jesus like....he is highly polarising politically.

Nearer Satan than Jesus.

What's your point?

Elon Musk a master of applying technology and the intellectual talents of others. He has created wealth, and offered innovations and advancement for society. We may not agree with his views and some may consider him unhinged, but there is no denying that his investment in Tesla promoted EVs, his investment in space advanced the world's knowledge of space, and his investment in satellite communications has allowed people in distant regions who were once isolated to connect with society. The 3 performers have not done any of this. All 3 are fine and decent people. However, none of them have made any contributions to the advancement of society. They have produced films and music that while entertaining, will be forgotten in 200 years. The advances that Musk has fostered are part of the advance of society.

Yes, but he does not toe the leftist line, so he must be destroyed.

Isn't gen X going to inherit all the boomer's wealth ?

That should make their life better.

No, that wealth is being transferred to PE in the Cayman Islands, to invest in soya farms in Brazil, to support Chinese demand for pork.

In NA and Europe, increasingly PE is buying up the care homes, where you hand over unfathomably large sums to sit out your days in a facility that would make a Blackpool B&B embarrassed. Care homes will cost you about £1500-2000 a week for the final 5-7 years of your life. If you need nursing care, expect £4000 a week or so will need to be found. At least one third of everyone on the forum will develop dementia. You're on the hook for £700,000. That's the house and savings gone. At least in the UK, if you are down to your last £22k, the state will step in so you are not a destitute gibbering idiot. Some of that will come from whatever state support you receive, whether you call that Social Security or State Pension or whatever. That money is, in effect, today's taxpayers money being transferred to account in George Town. Your own personal wealth is a combination of a lifetime of hardwork, perhaps working hard for a company that is creating wealth through making things people want, and, often later in life, receiving a legacy from parents who went before their time, because they were born in a different age. They croaked at 65-70, and everyone complained that the pension wasn't worth it. You though, get to live 85 years, but the last 5 years of those are spent pissing and <deleted>ting into your pants, calling the nurse mum, and not knowing what day it is. But you had 10 ok years, sweating on whether your pension will see you to 100, because everyone aged 50 think they are going to live to 100.

The PE firms are clever. They buy the nursing home as a going concern. They separate the business from the infrastructure, and then charge the business an unfeasibly high rent to use the facility (sale-and-leaseback / property-company structure). Jacking up the rent reduces the profitability of the care home business, reducing exposure to business taxes. Many of the PE firms are offshore, and in effect, the nation is being asset stripped.

So no, Gen X are less likely to benefit from inheritance. Later in life, many will find themselves raising kids again, but this time without support from the state, as their own children find child care costs rising beyond affordable, or the traditional stay at home mum model is basically untenable, if a couple have any home of buying a home of their own.

The so-called Boomers lived in a golden age. The Greatest Generation made all the sacrifice, struggled in the Great Depression, fought and died in WW2 to come back to ruins. The Boomers got to Twist and Shout and really did sod all to deserve it. I'd call them the Ingrate generation.
