Adult Thai Offspring, working in Thailand, sharing the same residence, can officially sponsor their foreign parent for a 1-year Extension of Stay

While doing my Support Thai Wife extension application, and asking the Imm officer about when can I stop including my adult children's details in my annual extension applications, the Imm Officer kindly proceeded to inform of us a Permission of Stay we had never heard before, called in Thai “วีซ่าบุตรไทย”.

Basically, an adult offspring of Thai Nationality can sponsor their foreign parent for a 1 year extension (so no need for Baht 400k/B40k under a marriage visa).

Imm Officer explained criteria is: Adult offspring must have a salaried job in Thailand, must provide a letter from employer explaining work title, start date and monthly salary, must show 3 x monthly salary received in bank, copy of bank details. There is no maximum or minimum for the salary. The adult offspring and foreign parent must reside at the same address (there is a need for both parties to prove that). As the Imm Officer explained it: “you take care of child, then they take care of you, that’s Thai society”.

•          3 Months of Salary Proof: Monthly payslips or withholding tax certificates (T.W. 50) for the last 3 months.

•          3 Months Bank Statements: The child's personal bank statements showing the salary being deposited consistently.

•          Tax Documents: Personal income tax filings (such as P.N.D. 91 or P.N.D. 1) along with official receipts from the Revenue Department to prove legal earnings.

3. Proof of Relationship & Shared Residence

•          Child's Birth Certificate: Original and a copy to conclusively prove the biological/legal link to the foreign parent.

•          Thai Child's ID & House Registration (Tabien Baan): Original and copies showing the child's current address.

•          Shared Residence Proof:

•          Proof of residence showing both names

•          tied to the property (e.g., House Registration or a valid rental agreement).

•          TM.30 Registration: The mandatory address notification receipt for the foreign parent at that specific address.

•          Family Photographs: Clear, color photos of the parent and adult child together inside the house, in front of the house, and showing the house/room number clearly.

•          A hand-drawn map or printed map pin showing the exact location of the residence.

4. Application Process

1.           Initial Visa: The foreign parent must currently hold a valid Non-Immigrant O (Family) visa or entry stamp.

2.           Form & Fee: Prepare the TM.7 Application Form (Extension of Temporary Stay) with a passport-sized photo and the 1,900 THB

3.           application fee.

4.           In-Person Appearance: Both the foreign parent and the adult Thai child must appear together in person at the local Immigration Office. Officers will interview both parties and take formal statements.

5.           The "Under Consideration" Period: Immigration will first stamp a 30-day "under consideration" period to verify the documents and background before granting the full 1-year extension.

It is a very underutilized/under subscribed Visa category, mostly because foreigners here have little half Thai kids not adult ones.

Wow, the number of requirements is daunting.

Luckily I have thai Permanent Residence (29 years already).
