OK, briefly I have a GA-P965-DS3 MoBo using a E6600 processor with 2 x 1GB DDR2-800 DIMM Latency 5.5.5.18. I have the FSB set to 400MHz with a multiplier of 8.0 giving a clock of 3.2GHz. The System Memory Multiplier is set to 2 which should give a Memory Frequency of 800MHz. Voltages have been tweaked a bit. The system runs very stable under Orthos and other stress testing utilities.

When running the Super PI 1.5 stress program it does 24 iterations of Pi at 32M digits in 20 Minutes 50 Secs. The latest QX6800 is completing it in 17 Min 30 Sec. This test used to take 3 days on an olde P90.

I’m using all sorts of utilities to monitor the system including Gigabytes own software and Everest V4.0 and all are telling me that the Memory Clock is only running at 400MHz (or whatever I set the FSB to) in theory it should be 800Mhz. I have played with latency settings and increased the voltage to within 0.2 Volts of the upper limit but it does not make any difference.

Any ideas as to how I'm suposed to get the best out of my memory modules?

No... DDR2-6400 Run at 400mhz. Some stores advertise that its 800mhz since its called DDR2 800, but don't get fooled. DDR2's transfer data on both raise and fall of a clock cycle thus effectively double the speed. So 400mhz DDR2 ram runs effectively as 800mhz, but its actually only running 400mhz internally. Everest's showing result as in the internal mhz which is 400mhz ( thats correct).

Don't worry, it's working correctly.

Maybe you could divert some of the power from the forward stabilizers and re-route from life support :o

Thanks for this. What does the System Memory Multiplier do then? If not effecting the DIMM clock then I can only assume it a FSB multiplier for the Northbridge (memory controller)??

The bios information I'm finding is scratchy at best.
