meithai
Hi can anyone help with this one? I bought a moped from a German guy I know, I have a dual signed purchase receipt from him. Trouble is the Green Log Book is still in his name, what do I need to do to get my name put on it? Will he need to be present at the office to do this or can I do this alone with the purchase document? I tried to get info at the immigration Office - But no joy. I'm based in Pattaya. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers for now. Edited September 5, 2007 by meithai
madjbs
You need these 2 documents, Transfer document: Side 1 http://www.dlt.go.th/eform/regcar5.pdf Side 2 http://www.dlt.go.th/eform/regcar5_2.pdf (do not fill in) Letter of attorney: Side 1 http://www.dlt.go.th/eform/drl6.pdf Side 2 http://www.dlt.go.th/eform/drl6_2.pdf Look here for a translation of the documents http://www.geocities.com/bkkriders/documents/index.html If the seller is with you at the transport office then you don’t need the letter of attorney but if you want to go alone then you need it. You need a copy of the sellers: 1. Copy of Passport, Visa, Entry Stamp, entry card, 2. Letter of residence or work permit (new rule so you may be lucky and they might not ask for this) 3. Green Book signed by the seller You need for yourself: 1. Copy of Passport, non immigrant visa, entry stamp, entry card 2. Letter of residence or work permit plus copy You need to go to the department of land transportation office, go to the builing for registration and hand all your documents over to the help desk near the entrance, they will tell you where to go from there (in bangkok anyway but I assume its the same over there) Hope this helps Jake Edited September 7, 2007 by madjbs
meithai
Hi Thanks for the great info, Jake, but what do you actually mean by a 'Letter of Residence'?
LivinLOS
Letter from immigration (or your embassy but immigration should be cheaper) confirming your residential address.. Usually you show them your rental agreement or a utility bill..

madjbs
You have to have a non immigrant visa, first to get a letter stating your address in Thailand which MUST be issued either by immigration or your embassy. To get this letter you will need to show your rental agreement. Secondly you need a non immigrant visa in order to own a motorbike. So if you don’t have one you will need a Thai friend to register it in their name. Jake Edited September 9, 2007 by madjbs

Jake Nope I have had 'residence letters' issued on tourist visa's and even no visa at all (visa exempt 30 day stamp) made no difference at all to Phuket immigration any time I have asked for one. Some immigration offices can be difficult about these but then your embassy can provide one. I have owned cars bikes and mopeds on every class of visa I have had (from none to non imm's).. There has never been a need for me to use a 'trusted Thai friend'.. Edited September 11, 2007 by LivinLOS
madjbs
Its still the rules that you have to have a non immigrant visa, so dont be dissapointed if you get refused. Your right about the letter of residence though, I dont remember the embassy ever checking my visa. If you happen to live in Chiang Mai however you wont be getting one unless your on 1 year extensions.
