I live in Vientiane, and own a tax-free car here (Mitsi-Strada, 1999).

I hope to retire to Hua Hin next year, will be getting retirement visa. Rather then selling my truck here and buying a new one in Thailand, I am thinking of importing it and getting it Thai plates. It has the steering in the right place since it was bought new in Thailand by previous owners, but now runs on Laos registration.

Anyone who can tell me how to go about it. Is there a service that will process the paperwork for me? What would duty be?

If it was originally Thai registered you may have a hope of reverting it..

Otherwise unless theres a specific local country import route the general rule is not a hope..

Stradas are not very popular overhere. So there aren't expensive. Try to sell it overthere and buy another one overhere. You'll don't lose money, i guess.
