Greetings

A university friend of mine from the UK, recently divorced, 39, has also recently retrained as a primary school teacher through the Graduate Training Program, and now has Qualified Teacher Status. He has several years of work experience in industry (banking), but obviously very little in teaching. He has asked me about the ease with which he could find a job teaching primary school children at an international school in thailand. Salary does not bother him, since he is now quite wealthy, even by UK standards, he knows about the sea-changes and instability of Thai immigration laws, and he is flexible about location, but being legal is a definite requirement. He would consider teaching english in a Thai school, although his preference is definitely towards working in an international school.

Any advice or comments are welcome.

I get the impression that jobs teaching primary school children are plentiful -- not many foreigners around Thailand who are brave enough or experienced enough with teaching very young children.

Tell him to look on ajarn(dot)com -- I'd be very surprised if he doesn't find a decent selection of jobs there, and as he has formal qualification in that area, I think he could find an international school that pays a decent wage. It seems that employers for these types of jobs often prefer women to teach the wee ones, but if the school needs someone badly enough, they'll probably give him a try.
