Hello, windows became unstable and slow, can anyone tell me how to reinstall windows

quickly and without losing any data? I read somewhere that it's possible to install

windows in the unattended mode. How's that? What's needed for that?

Anyway an unattended installation isn't quicker then a normal installation, it's only that it doens't require any user intervention and is used by Lan Admin's so that they can start such an installation and get on with other duties, as they don't have to stay at the computer to enter name, product key and the sort, they don't have to press next or ok, the installation will finish without user intervention. To do so, they need to build that installation, which of course cost time, but is worthwhile for a large number of computers, not for a single computer.

If you must re-install windows, you can do so by running a normal installation. However if you want to keep the data, I would backup that data to another partition or external storage and format the harddrive, as installation over your existing version might not work as expected.

If you own a XP CD just start/boot from the CD, ignore the first option of Repair, after the EULA screen, where you've to press F8 to accept the Licences Agreement, should come an other option of Repair. To use this option you can re-install Windows complete but keep allo Programs, Settings and Data!

If this option didn't appears than there is some serious failure with your system and you should stop all action immediatly and backup all you Data first to a different drive!

You can easily install Windows in the unattended mode. Only you gotta have brains for that

here's an extract from the manual on unattended installation

This manual is for the following groups of IT specialists:

* IT specialists responsible for deploying device drivers on client computers working under

Windows Vista or Windows Server Longhorn.

* IT specialists engaged in planning and analyzing the information infrastructure and

evaluating the features of Windows Vista and Windows Server Longhorn.

* Security specialists responsible for protecting computer environments.

* Administrators who would like to get acquainted with the technology described in this manual.

read carefully, might work out for you as well.

There are different ways to go in case of unattended installation:

1. free, but difficult (do it all manually, read stuff, get into details)

Unattended Windows installation manual.

2. paid and easy:

Almeza Multiset

Way back I tried both, now I have this one DVD from MultiSet

unattended windows installation + all the rest (drivers, service packs, software)

Try running the system file checker. c:>sfc /scannow You probably need admin rights on vista to do this.

should resore any corrupted files etc.

This utility has saved me doing re-installs a few times.
