Can anyone with experience in framing tell me the correct way in which to mount a photograph onto mountboard prior to framing.

I can tell you where I have gone wrong!

I was masking all 4 sides of the photograph with low tack masking tape onto the mountboard which had caused some of my images to buckle.

I have now started to just tape along the top of the image and then mask a secondary piece of mountboard onto the back of the mount to cover the photo.

What's the correct way?

Also whats the best glossy or matt for framing??

Thanks

Hi

Does it need to be mounted? Most photos, unless they are poster size, will sit quite comfortably in a glass fronted frame.

In a former life I was in photography and we used to mount our photos with special thin double sided coated paper that was the put into a hot press to mount the photo. This obviously is not an option for the average guy at home.

There was also a product (if I remember correctly) called “Cow Gum” for small mounting jobs.

I can’t really help any more except to say be careful what adhesive you use as over time the wrong sort will show through to the front of the photo.

Matt photos are better as they will not course reflections, though some say you lose some of the sharpness with a matt finish.

In the real word you can get special non reflective glass for picture framing. It has a sort of matt finish. Don’t know if this is available in LOS.

Good Luck
